You could say things happen for a reason or that there is a meaning behind all this, or maybe just that you are rewarded for giving him a chance...
It makes me very happy Randy became your hero. Whatever the reasons and the excuses, I don't think it's right to treat roosters like he was.

From what I hear, the strains in the US are quite different, but the ones we have here have a big tendency to wander off. They are very difficult to keep on a property that is not fenced. And they can walk a looooong way. Our friend farmer Gaston has a bunch of them. One of them, Oscar, decided one summer he didn't want to guard the sheeps in the mountains from the wolves anymore, which is why people have them here. He walked down from a 6700 ft mountain where the sheeps where kept, 15 km/10 miles back to his human's home 🤣.

I don't see enough of her either. She is one of those escapee ! A few weeks ago my partner said he thought the boar had come digging in the field under the chickens yard. It turns out Annette had found she could force her way through the wire mesh and was spending most of the afternoons on her own scratching and digging ! I never noticed because she could come back the same way, though it was more difficult. I've doubled the fence with netting since and now she flies over one of the door. At least I hear her when she takes off ! She is extremely clever so I'm not too afraid for her.

She is just like Piou-piou before she got that bad wound ; she cares nothing about humans. She isn't scared, she just wants nothing to do with us and she isn't food motivated at all. I hope like Piou-piou she will change as she gets older.

Half of the roof is tile, half is sheet metal, but the slope is the other way so it's not an issue.
Here are some pics from below where you can see the landscape cloth at the bottom of the run. It's hard to see because of all the leaves. On the left of the run, and the side where the human door is, there isn't any. When it gets too windy we protect it with transparent plastic tiles ; it's where they have their favourite perch and it's nice to have it more cozy in winter and more ventilated in summer.

An unlikely sunbathing tuefer. Laure (on the left).and Kara both went to the vet recently : Laure was implanted and Kara has ascites, likely from a reproductive issue. When Kara was healthy, she was a huge bully ; and Laure has always been terrified of all the other hens. However since they've been not very well, they seem to have a surprising tolerance with each other ! I've seen this before when two of my ex-batt's were not feeling good at the same time.

It’s a really good location for your run, very handy. I am thinking of using some of that fabric to break the wind in the run, it’s open to the north right now, and the wind whips through there.

He is! His color is chocolate merle and he's 10 pounds of love and fluff!
Many yrs ago I discovered what I thought looked like a baby fox in a cardboard box on my front porch. It was so cute peeking out it's little pointed snout & dark little eyes looking up at me. Such a cute baby fox w/ a reddish coat that let me pick it up. I didn't know what to do w/it & put it in the house in our old Rottweiler carrier. Gave it water but not sure about food. I still wasn't convinced if it was a puppy fox or a puppy dog. I asked the neighbors on my street if anyone lost a puppy & no one had lost one.

I kept the baby overnight to decide in the morning to call animal rescue & seriously wanting to keep the puppy if it was not a fox cuz it was so darn sweet as animal babies can be.

The next morning a knock on the door from a distant neighbor said my close neighbors told her about me having found a puppy & she had lost a baby Pomeranian. She bred Pomeranians & one got lost. Since she described it exactly I knew it was hers & brought out the cute little bugger to her. It was so excited to be in her arms! I was kinda sad & she offered another litter mate for sale but at the time they went for $1000 way beyond my budget teehee!

Oh well, that's the closest I came to having a Pomeranian!
