Hawks are Back

I got this video of the crows harassing a hawk as it circled over FBA last week. Hopefully Aster is learning from the others how to stay safe.

Is that a Red Shouldered Hawk? They're supposed to be rare in our area but we have at least 2 pairs that live right by our property, which is really cool! Except for the fact that we have chickens to worry about now 😆

Yesterday and the day before a bald eagle flew right over the house, too. We don't see that as often!

Whomst is my new layer? White egg so...Nyx? Shiba-san? Bab Ross? Those are my only pullets that are even close to laying age. She laid it off of the pallet ladder I made so it broke.

I'm fighting for my dogs life.

I'm sure he had dementia.

I've given him krill oil vegetables and meat this morning, he still wouldn't rest.
Then I chopped in raw beetroot with his minerals and vitamins from a trusted vet. I think with everything he ate after eating this beetroot he started to relax. It really is a super food full of antioxidants

I can't leave him because he get so strung out. Last night I almost called the vet to have him put to sleep. But for now things have really improved, he actually sleeping and snoring contently. But one little sound and he wakes up.

Yesterday I had a very important appointment, this really upset him. I had to get supplies and found it extremely difficult to get home. But thankfully a couple of friends got me back. 🙏
Our pets do put us thru the ringer but we know it's worth it for the time they give us joy & have contributed their usefulness to us for so long. Your animals are so lucky to have you!

Thirsty Thursday

Some reflection on why chooks like wild water….

Is it because it’s tasty?

Or is it some forbidden fruit?

I think they just want to pretend they are wild birds who can survive it the wilds.

I see they are reflecting on this…

Most of our hawks are cooper's hawks with the occasional red tailed. I really can't tell from that far away. Maybe @ChicoryBlue can help ID it. She is a bit of a hawk expert.

Bab ross is only 16 weeks though...Nyx was hatched in May and Shiba-san in March.
Nyx is silkiexcochin bantam so I figured she'll have pinkish eggs.
Shiba-san did just have a bit of comb growth this past week and is acting more confident...View attachment 3961944
In my experience polish are late layers. For example Phyllis was 23 weeks old when she laid her first egg.
