Esp Shorley - he is humongous easily twice the size of any of the hens here. He could do real damage to another Roo if he got fighting.

It’s too bad really he is a gorgeous bird but not for me and my petite wee hens I have. The Buff Orps and the BR are even dwarfed by him.
That's huge

So sad. I find people are so disconnected from their food. No respect for a living creature that will give its life we can live. Makes me fume.
I was using this to teach everyone I ran into about meat birds and the life they have, what little there is of it.

Oh, Wow! Look at those tiny fluffies! So that was Jaffar? How did you come up w/that name? I love stories about pet names ❤️
I was looking all over for a tamed roo, but couldn’t find one that didn’t have issues. I took it to The Lord, and looked on Craigslist. I found Sir. Jaffar in the gardening and livestock section. He lived right down the road from me across the river on a ranch where fighting cocks were raised. He had no ladies of his own there. I call it a blessed providence, that God had brought us together. He had a wonderful life right up until the end. He died protecting his ladies.
He was already named when I got him. He came to me as Jaffar, and left this world as Sir Jaffar, chosen by Queen Aurora as a knight of her majesty’s court. There is a whole written history here in Fluffy Butt Acres historical documents. Maybe I will share it again someday. It still hurts me greatly because he’s now gone.

I have a huge disdain for an advertisement on the TV about a poultry factory farm and how they ‘enrich’ their hens lives.

I scoff every time I see the Ad. Wish I could email them and tell them get real. I use that Ad to educate people on the sad lives of layers.

I like that she is keeping the swarms of song birds out of the backyard. I'm very pleased that she kills them. I don't need bird flu coming for a visit.
I feel that the risk from song birds is likely minimal.

Now ducks and geese I would be freaked out about. I chase them away from my property. RC may wave to them but I yell at them 😉

She sits normally and seems to have full mobility of that leg.

I can feel the head of her femur moving when I press on it; it will slip back. I really don’t want to try forcing it around too much. Without an X-ray I don’t know if it’s fractured or not. The call I placed to a Vet today was very dismaying, they quoted my over $800 to do an assessment and X-rays. No way I can afford that. 😢

So my plan is to give her 6 weeks to see if she heals to the point where she can walk around and roost. If not then I will have no choice but to cull her.

Anyways I gave her more calcium and Tylenol. She is good enough in her crate so she can stay there, her being out for an hr or so in the evening will help keep her from getting depressed and give her some exercise.

Also she has laid 2 soft eggs since she did this Monday. I have noted that I had a soft egg layer the past month, and it was blue eggs so she is the one who was laying the soft eggs. I am hoping she stops laying and takes a break now that she has an injury. My luck she will start moulting too 😣
Can you put some sort of a wrap around her hips, maybe crossing it over her back to loop in front of her wings, to help keep it stable so it can heal?

Missed but never forgotten ♥️

And now Jaffarra will make a name for herself one day also. Like her name sake she is protecting her sisters from the bad boys.
