Wow! Black is so iridescent! Is that Nocturne? I researched once that said the preferred sheen on black feathers is green. However I like green, purple, shoot! I love ALL the sheens!

In 2011 when we went to the feed store to meet up w/ a Silkie breeder we asked for a Partridge but Fate made us fall in love w/a sweet calm Black Silkie pullet ~ she turned out to be a little pistol . Never wanted a black chicken but she changed my mind forever.

@SimpleJenn ~ suggestion on those adorable little crotchet chickens: since the majority of chicken breeds have reddish-bay (orange) eyes change out the black bead eyes to orange beads? Except Silkies will always have black eyes.

That is Nyxs tail!
Shep has a purplish sheen in some lights, green or blue in others. Nyx and Nocturne are very green, and one of the meatbird boys is also green.

Also, australorps have black eyes, too.

At certain angles and in certain light the feathers do take on a more purple sheen.
