Sad day here.
Had to euthanize that sickly little roo, he was done fighting. I guess I didn't catch his worms in time. :(
Also my gramma is not improving, either she's in too much pain to move or she's asleep with the pain meds. So they're discussing her going into a nursing home versus assisted living.

Sorry for the bummers, y'all.

Morinth is laying again, she laid a shelless egg that I had to show to hubby and kiddo before feeding it to the dog.
:hugs :hugs Difficult things, tough things. I’m sorry :hugs :hugs

I heartily concur that the White Leghorns have the only outstanding prolific reputation in the chicken world. Why else would mankind be using the White Leghorn to crossbreed Leghorns w/other breeds to try increasing other breeds' egg production?!

Leghorns' beautiful combs require Mediterranean climates for best health but they have shown outstanding hardiness in all climates as long as precautions are taken to prevent frostbite. We used vitamin E in coconut oil rubbed on comb & wattles for protection on frost nights. Some have recommended vaseline on comb & wattles to protect from frostbite but that leaves a terrible stain on the pristine white feathers.
Are you saying that people who have leghorns should send them to the Mediterranean?:gig

Daisy successfully survived temperatures as low as -10°F (-23°C) with no frost bite to that magnificent comb. It is about moisture. Keep it dry and they can survive very low temperatures intact if necessary. Proper ventilation of your coop is essential.

I lived so many years in a place with small yards. Bricked up and fenced away from the neighbors houses only 20 meters away from me. I couldn’t even see myself living that lifestyle anymore. I needed open space for my sanity.
It’s unfortunate that I can’t use all the spaces that I have acquired at this time of my life. :th:idunno
Yes I could never live is a city either. But maybe in the future I might have to learn to live near others. Just hope they allow chooks 😉👍
