Why do Roos have to be so much trouble? :barnie Mr. Wyandottey is acting up and I had to separate him from the rest of the crew.
I love when pullets pass the 1st teenager stage of the year. I suppose it's the same w/cockerels. They are growing so fast their 1st year it probably is a major adjustment for them?

Just spectacular! :love
What’s not to love right? Wattles, combs, they are brats 😊♥️ Gosh I cannot wait until they moult and they new tail feathers come in with those jaunty lovely leghorn tails. Their have been just so ratty from when I bought them.

Matching combs! Sisters?

Bone stimulator seems to be helping w/pain but will know more next week on progress after Xray.
Nope not sisters at all. And not even from same hatcheries. Ruth is from Hoovers, and Topsy is from Freys here in Ontario.

Gosh I sure hope it’s helping knit up those bone ends.

And as for the sisters I also should add that Ruth likely also has leghorn in her. All those hybrids do.

I think I'll get some barred rocks in spring. They are great all-rounders. Hopefully I can get hatching eggs but I could always set the brooder back up...
I also want to try cornish hens. They look so cute.
Straight comb Barred Rocks were originally Dominiques that were crossbred w/another breed (Jersey Giant) to be bigger for meat (ref: The American Dominique by Mark Fields). I decided to stay w/ the original Rose comb Dominique breed which are happy outgoing curious unafraid chicks from day 1 and are good flockmates. At least our 4 were. We have one old Dom girl "Dana" left now & the Doms have been natural protectors over the little Silkies.

I once considered Cornish (not Crosses) as they are interesting but after researching them they are more a game bird than a domestic type so I passed on them cuz i wanted to stick w/ gentle temperament types in my flock. If you get Cornish keep us apprised. They are a hefty compact meat bird.
