it seems Piou-piou and Hibou, my female cat, have come to an agreement regarding food. It's unfortunately both disgusting and unhealthy but they don't listen to me when I tell them.
Hibou leaves mice and dormouse innards in front of my house for Piou-piou.
While Piou-piou is eating those and only then, she is allowed to eat Piou-piou 's scratch grains and mash.

I try to tell them cat should stick to cat food, and chicken to chicken food. But they say it's much tastier to eat something you're not allowed to.

My cats are only cute when they sleep. Good thing that happens a lot during the day.

Like kids, want what the others have and they cannot have.

Today Sybil decided to shake things up a bit and lay a speckled egg! 😆

Phew, it's been so cold, brrr... After today it's going to warm up again, Monday the high is 50⁰F!... And then it drops again. I don't mind. Sometimes I feel like the only person around who loves winter and snow!

We had chicken thighs for dinner last night. I haven't had much of an appetite lately so I hardly touched mine. I gave them to the girls. They appreciated the hot meal 😋

CATURDAY!

The other day, Sasuke wanted my boiled carrots sooo badly. I kept having to smack his paw away :gig
That's a beautiful egg, but I much love the cat picture. That's just adorable! ❤️

I have found that it’s easier on me to raise chicks myself. I find the hens raising chicks are so grumpy, picking fights if someone just so much as looks her way!

Having to keep them separated for weeks is not my choice but for practical reasons so they don’t fight.

But chicks I raise myself are pretty much introduced to the main gang by 10 days old. The others just ignore them and the wee chickies go about their business eventually they grow up start laying and fully integrate with the big ones.

That’s just my experience. Maybe I am a worry wart with the mamas fighting.
:goodpost:

Yes! I'm all for those that let the hens hatch and raise the chicks, but I too rather do it myself. We've had to raise theirs anyway, three times now, when they'd wean them too soon, as young as four weeks old, so they could go be broody again.

A little group of four-week-old chicks free-ranging all by themselves in our yard is a scary thing!

Thus the temp coops were born and incubators purchased. No hen hatching for an entire year, then I fell for it this fall and let Marsha sit on eggs. I figured maybe since she's permanently broody, she may as well do something productive.

Then, that's when all the troubles that we had to deal with. Out of six that hatched, one died, two were culled, one is a crossbeak, one has internal digestive issues and looks like a walking balloon, and one is normal.

No more hen-hatching!

Miracle, the egg that was left for dead.

Ours is on a cart, like you're pushing a shopping cart around the yard.
I had one of those but it was so lightweight it wasn't stable & kept tipping over & wouldn't roll well plus the hose wouldn't roll up evenly for me & caused the hose to bunch up on one side instead of rolling up easily. If a rubber or plastic hose is cold it isn't pliable enough to roll up nicely & fights me like a boa snake.

Once I finally got a ground mounted hose reel for my more pliable durable steel hose I saw a video trick on rolling up a hose so it doesn't kink. These two videos are worth watching for us who have hoses for gardening or chickeneering.

I also have a Sidewinder to keep my garden hoses off the ground to keep from getting muddy during rainstorms or poopy from chickens. There are several other nicer hose support brands too. These are called RV sewer hose supports but I put 2 to 3 regular garden hoses on these supports to keep the hoses off the ground.

Wish I had better photos of our flexible Sidewinder hose support but these pics show two of our older contractor & garden hoses being supported off the ground w/ Silkie next to it to show size. The hoses stay cleaner this way. We never stored this Sidewinder & has been steadily outdoors for 3 yrs now. This hose support brand is flimsy compared to others but suits our purpose for a small yard.
