I thought about not posting this. I will probably take some heat for it but I have always been transparent about my flock. I am still so mad I am shaking.

Randy is gone.

He started turning on George this last week. I have broke up 3 fights with George trying to cower and Randy flogging him. After the 2nd go around I listed him to see if I could find him a home. No takers. This evening me and dad were out cleaning the stalls. I opened up the coop to see if Poppet and Turkey wanted to come out. They were hanging around just outside the entrance and all was good, until it was not. Randy came around the side of the house and darted and grabbed Turkey and shook her like a ragdoll. Oh I lost it and came charging with the poop fork and he dropped her and ran. I think she is unharmed. No visible injuries and she was walking fine but she and Poppet were immediately put up. People, I can forgive a lot of things. I give roosters every chance to succeed. I will not tolerate any chicken trying to murder a chick. This could be why Poppet has been reluctant to bring Turkey out of the coop to explore and he has tried to do this before. I put Randy down after I locked up Poppet and Turkey.

I tried with him. He was good in many ways but there are just some lines no chicken can cross with me.

Oh Rebecca, you gave him so many chances. You couldn't risk your other flocks lives. I'm so sorry

I am mad at him. So mad he had me in tears after what I did sunk in.

I am mad that for so long he showed such promising behaviors. I am mad he made me fall for him. I am mad he made me do something that I have only had to do once before. I am mad I miss him already.

Randy, Darn it. You were changing my views on game roosters in a mutli-rooster flock. I am so sorry about this evening.

He showed promise and blew it himself. Doesn't mean it can't work at some point in the future. Maybe starting from chick or past the hormonal idiot phase. Maybe another will need a home at some point. Mourn him and his missed potential. Rejoice in his shining moments. You did the right thing. I have (currently) 4 roosters. I've had 2 get into a ranging fight, reset and go at it again. Those 2 are gone. 1 of the current roos is the surprise offspring of one of those 2. As long as the disagreements stay at chasing and occasionally a peck, we're good. If there's more to it/cornering and beating up/ drawing blood (going for chicks with anything more than a "I'm in charge" assertion falls into those too) means there's a problem and it WILL be dealt with. It's never easy when they've charmed you, though.

I am dreading Mr LC becoming a little terror. At the moment Mr P chases him and Shirley. Who both run from him.

Surprisingly though Mr P and Clyde seem to get along fine and ignore each other. I normally keep Clyde in the Summer House with Mr P and the old biddies - I would hate for Shirley to hurt him if they got fighting. Mr LC can fly away so I worry less about him.

But still, I have 4 Roos here and at some point I know I will need to separate some or all of them. Hopefully I can get a nice home for Shirley.

Mr LC and Mrs LC may have to be housed separately at some point, and I will keep the pullets he grew up with - the 3 buff Orps, Jaffara and the other 2, with them.

As long as Clyde behaves he and Mr P can share the main gang and the old ladies.

Nothing but worry now with the two new dumplings - my luck they are both cockerels. But I don’t have to worry about that for a while thankfully.

Frightening!

It is truly scary to me that we could transmit bird flu to our flocks by giving our cats something to eat! Please be sure to wash your hands carefully and thoroughly after feeding your cats or dogs. If it can be in cat food it can be in dog food.

Bill got us a new tiny tree this year, a dwarf blue spruce. We set it up with the gifts from my sister and her kids. They made the candles (chicken and gnome) and my niece made the felties a Rosie chicken and a penguin.View attachment 4014591

A nice compact Christmas scene says it all meaningfully ~ all it needs is a nativity barn to house the animals for next year

But pardon me ~ skeletons are in fashion year-round teehee! My DD/SIL have acquired a new silverware set subtley embossed w/ skulls down the handles. At 1st it just looks like swirly designs down the length of the handle but upon closer examination its a pattern row of embossed little skulls. It tickled DD that I picked up on the design.

George's hormones have finally hit and he has discovered the ladies. George is also young, dumb, and the girls are all on a break so they want no attention from ANY rooster. Let alone a young little menace. It does not stop him from trying to impress them however. He is dancing his heart out to several of the girls, they chase him down and peck him. He tried to pull a sneak attack on Raven, oh you idiot. She chased him down yanking on his tail feathers.View attachment 4014615
