I’ll say blue because I so want that for you, and maybe it’s possible she’s some kind of different legbar! But I’d prefer two choices, blue or a beautiful white.
Alas it is not to be. I'm so glad you thought of me and chose that way. It's very sweet.

This finally makes sense to me. Dad White Leghorn, Mum Lavender Orpington. I like it. 2 of my favorite chickens. Hopefully it makes for a super-healthy, long-lived chicken.
Mom NOT lavender but BBS (blue toned) orp. Dad blue or splash leghorn or other med build blue/splash color. If you could borrow a roo (ANY roo except a splash), her eggs will hatch out BLUE babies (look almost black until come in well at 1-2 weeks).

In my memory White Plymouth Rocks are large birds. But it's been decades since I saw one in person.
Pretty much same as a BPR. Depends, of course, how much 'productionized/'improved' each is. Remember: White Rock + Dark Cornish = is what what used to create the Cornish Rock Cross. (multiple generations, of course). The few White Rocks I have had were pretty much similar to PBRs (Neither were as big/fluffy as the few heritage PBRs I was able to get years ago, as both were productionized...so, in other words hatchery stock do NOT meet the Standards of Perfection - but general body shape - shrunk down, is similar)

I rely on you completely for genetic explanations. You make it all seem so simple. Thanks so much for working this through. I am so happy you chose to hang out with us. I learn from you every time.
I ran into it the hard way with Storm (Blue laced Red wyandotte (very light, turned out to be splash laced) x olive egger (barred, no crest)) being solid blue, with a crest...then again the following year with Lark and Indigo (blue). How did Cheetah (orange and black with white down and blue legs) produce them from Blanche and PITA (splash)? Thing got me my first exposure into "black split to_______". Again Cheetah crossed with black and white mottled makes WHAT?! Solid BLACK?! How?:idunno:caf (head sctatching):caf:confused::caf:th:he:barnie:caf became the mental process.

I do find it fascinating that the black split to mottled can have the mottled bleed through the black with adult moults.

Makes me wonder if the split to lavender can moult out at least partially lavender at around the 3+ age mark....

And how many different "split to_______" types there are....

Thanks for the correction. An incorrectly identified BBS Orp and Blue or Splash Leghorn. Got it. I got excited there.

I can't find a photo of splash leghorn. Crazy.

Maybe that's how landrace come about w/their different colors & patterns within the same hatch?

It's Official!

Aster has laid an egg, 7 in fact!

We have been away visiting family for 11 days. She must have started right after we left. There were no eggs on 12/22. In fact I had not seen her even check out a nest box. let's allow a day or 2 and estimate that it was a Christmas present from her to us. that would then be 7 eggs in 9 days!

So now its guessing time. Before looking, what color do you think it is? Is it white like a leghorn? Is it another beige egg? Could it b dark brown? Did BY Bob get another Blue layer somehow like her mum? Is it green of all things? Or is it a royal Pink in hue?

Guess before looking

It is the official color of FBA, Beige.

It weighs 1.7 oz or 47 grams

Does that help at all with breed identification? It must at least rule some breeds out, right?
Go, Aster!
