They would love to have chickens but alas they live in town and no chickens allowed. They also live over an hr away now so they don’t visit much anymore.

Good evening everyone.

I got some wonderful chicken news that I wanted to share with you all.

Today I started working a few days a week at a local diner. The lady who owns it is my friend who also runs the horse shows each summer. She is now short staffed and she called me Wednesday asking if I would come in a few days a week. I do not mind it and will probably end up working full time once her new diner is open and she moves locations as it will be bigger. She is the person who I gave Karen too after the last horse show.

Betty popped in for a few minutes today and she gave me a huge hug and said she loved Karen. Karen has made herself at home, has a nice coop, her own Rooster and a little black hen for a companion. Karen is the boss and while with me she earned her name, she has turned into a hen who loves to be handled and is spoiled. Then I heard the news that makes me want to cry happy tears. My ever broody Karen who always chose the wrong time or spot to go broody which lead to fights breaking her, is a Momma. She went to setting within a month and has 2, 2 month old solid black chicks. She snuck into her hay loft to hide and go broody. They found her right away and instead of breaking her they placed the top of a dog kennel over her and dared anyone to mess with her. She is apparently the best little momma and even though her chicks are huge now she is still hanging onto them and has taught them to roost where they still snuggle under her wings at night. I'm hoping to have pictures in a few days to share with you all. I miss her as she was a good hen, but I clearly did the best thing for her. If I still had her she would still not be a momma which has been that girls mission in life.

Awwww that’s so sweet! What is with these hens that they want to have winter babies?! Cannot wait to see her and her little monkeys.

Karen just wanted babies. She wanted babies from the time she started laying at 6 months old. Spring, summer, fall or winter she had one thing on her mind. While I had her the timing just was never right. You want to set now? I have 4 hens already running around with chicks are you crazy...no. You want to set there? Are you crazy, that is a horrible spot, no. Karen, it is December and below freezing do not even think about it. For the love of god Karen here we go again, no. Every time she took weeks to break and when she would start back laying I was lucky for her to last a week.

Betty is thrilled to have a hen who wants to raise chicks. I hope this time next year Karen has not made her change her tune.

Apart from having a big red scratch on my sore swollen nose I'm fine. Thank you
I Hurt around my shoulders and arms where I pulled myself but no other bruising.

The vets nurse/manageress, called me yesterday too check me out, she's a really good lady.
Nancy Rose and myself for that matter are in very good hands

If I fall in town again I'm going straight to the vets

Good thinking! Facial bleeds always look worse.
Here's my lovely face bleeds after falling teehee! The eye got even blacker, purple, red, & took a few weeks to get back to normal.
