Dad and I put cardboard on the run's door to block more wind and then I let the girls out for about a half hour of foraging in a small shoveled area. The wind is too cold, even when the sun peeks through the clouds, so I had to wrangle them back into the run, and they weren't happy with me! They thought it was a beautiful afternoon with a pleasant breeze!

I didn't get any pics because my phone is charging, but I'll take a picture of the run after I feed my cat here in a second.

The most exciting part: Esme squatted in front of me as soon as she stepped out the door! Then again about 5 minutes later, at which point I picked her up to look at her vent. It's still yellow but it's more "puckered", and red underneath! She did it again as I was herding them all toward the run to go back in. I only stroked her back the first time and she didn't shake, but I'm sure an Esme egg is on the way!

Poor Mozzarella. Last night, she bent and broke her toenail and there is blood everywhere you look.

Some good news now, I was looking for Tony and Mozzarella and both of them weren't in the coop. Only Grandma and Parmesan. When I turned around, Tony popped out of the shelf she was hiding under and Mozzarella slithered out of the same spot Tony was hiding in too. It was like playing mini hide and seek, except we weren't actually playing.

Poor Mozzarella! I shudder when a chicken gets injured. Our Silkie tore off toenails & a toe completely off from scratching too hard in the nestbox. & you're right about the blood everywhere. Scares the pants off ya'

I was surprised at how much a very small cut on Gytha's comb bled. There wasn't blood everywhere but I expected to find something bigger with the amount of blood there was. It stopped quickly with paper towel and pressure. But the most stressful part was keeping the other girls from pecking at it. Had to pinch a couple necks a few times

Oh, and they tried to eat the alcohol wipes I cleaned her up with
