View attachment 4039724And she has been dropped off at the local duck sanctuary. We discussed finding the original owner but this was the better choice for us.
Thankfully she was unhurt and FEISTY! But once she bit a few times she settled for some pets and carrying.

Poor thing must've been scared out of her mind! Yanked from her original flock, rammed into a cage, tossed in the back of a flying truckbed, a flown open cage door confusing her as to how to escape the moving vehicle, chased & caught by more scary humans, put into another cage where at least there was feed & water, then off to a strange location to have to adjust to a whole new environment. You all did the right thing rescuing her but just thinking from her confused perspective it's a wonder she didn't have heart failure! So very nice that you have a local sanctuary

Poor Penelope must've been feeling poorly enough not to snuggle next to other birds.

It’s about +5C in the hen houses, so it’s likely not too bad.

Tonight I have her in the feedroom though, I want to try to get weight back on her. So I want her to not waste energy on keeping warm.

She is very old though so I would consider her fragile.

School is finally back in session, oh happy day! They went back yesterday. They had 5 weeks off for Christmas break. Last night I talked to Rosie about her possible birthday present. The Rodeo will be here for 2 days at the expo center in March. I told her to think about it and choose a friend if she wants and I will get her tickets for Friday night. I told her to choose a friend because I probably will have to work. She has went the previous 2 out of 3 years on Saturday evening and always complained it was the bull riding and she missed the barrel racing. I better have a answer from her by the weekend if she wants to go, tickets are selling fast.

The school buses where shut down for 3 days this week (mon, tues, and wed) due to white outs from blowing snow and snow squalls.

Sick of snow, and cold, poor chooks can’t even get out on Mount Poopmore it’s all covered in snow.

@rural mouse @RoyalChick @Ponypoor ~ a BYC article recommending frostbite treatment/protection. It amazes me how all chickeneers have such different opinions about their flock approaches.

Petroleum Jelly or Coconut Oil
Petroleum jelly has a few uses, including suffocating scaly leg mites and protecting combs and wattles from frostbite. Coconut oil can be used in the same way and is regarded as a more natural alternative. In either case, when applying for leg mites, use a thick coat, but when applying for frostbite prevention, only use a thin layer! In the case of frostbite, coconut oil cooking spray can make application easier and faster. I have heard that coconut oil is also good for healing wounds or slowing damage from already established frostbite as an alternative to antibiotic ointment, so I decided to put it in the emergency section.

It hasn't been their birthdays yet but Grandma will be 9, Tony will be 8 and the twins will be 5.
