Well, I did a thing today, darn my brother and his enabling.

They have been home about 30 minutes. I have them in the coop settling down. I saw them both, and could not decide on which one to take and leave the other.

Rosie already named them. Mr plum wattles is now Davy Jones and his brother is Hector Barbosa. Davy and Barbosa for short. Davy is the braver of the two. When I let them out of the box I spooked Barbosa by moving the box back and he went into the nest box and hid. Davy just stood there looking at me and I massaged his crop. I have yet to meet a rooster who does not enjoy a good crop massage and Davy is no exception. Tomorrow I will spend all day outside. Half my time with my dear George and the other half just sitting in the coop getting to know the boys.
Davy after his crop massage, I think he wanted me to do it again.

I do not care what else happens this year all is right in my chicken world again. I have my black silkie roo's.
They are beauties! I wouldn't be able to choose either!

Congratulations! Don’t starve us of pictures.
🥰
I will not. Tonight they needed to settle in first. The car ride traumatized them. The last thing they needed was for me to have a camera in their face taking 100 pictures. I have everyone put up for the night now. I actually put sawdust and hay in their box and put them back in it tonight. I do not want them part of the mad rush in the morning when I open up the coop. They need a few days to get settled and learn where home is. I also need to see just how easy they are in a small space to handle. I tell you right now when I spooked Barbosa earlier if the coop door had been opened I would have had a hard time catching him.

The boys namesakes....

These boys are not Branch and they never will be. I have came to the conclusion it was the best thing in the world that he gave me 6 daughters. Branch had such a hold on my heart and no other rooster can ever live up to him. I would have always compared a son of his to him and it just would not have been fair. These boys, I will get to know them. I know me and silkies, I will fall for them and fall hard. I will not compare them unfairly to a irreplaceable rooster who I will miss forever. I did not mean too, but I did that with Drumstick and Bubba. Bubba was a wonderful boy, built better then his father and I am glad I had him. He was not Drummie and it was not his fault. Now that he is gone I realize I did not appreciate him enough for who he was as a individual.
Branch sounds like a wonderful rooster! :love

I had a rooster I dearly loved, Pippi, short for Pippi Longshot. He was an only hatch out of 13 BO eggs I had shipped to me from Florida. Fortunately, the one thing I wanted out of the 13 eggs was a rooster, and he was it. Pippi was the best flock manager I ever had. He broke up any squabbles, and escorted them all in at the end of the day. He didn't roost until they were all roosted. He was so good to his ladies. We all miss him so much. Ralphie is another BO, and he is a good rooster, but not like Pippi. I always wished I could get a cockerel out of his offspring, but that never happened.

Pippi, hanging out with Gertie and Queen Bee near one of the old brooding coops. Old pic from about 3 or 4 years ago.

I hope I can be this aware of we ever have another polish lady.

Nope, Pirates of the Caribbean "Dead Mans chest" If we had not already had a cat named Jack he would have been Jack Sparrow. But Rosie looked at his comb and decided it was a giant tentacle growing out of his forehead so Davy Jones it was.
I knew that, hence the 😉

It was a chance to remember the other Davy Jones and why not. Fun music!

Phyllis is also irreplaceable. I will tell you now, you will not realize you are doing it until you are too late. I did not catch on to what I had done until Bubba was gone. I'm saying I will not compare these boys to Branch and I will try not to. They are just different enough I should be able to accomplish that. I will probably not always be 100% successful.

Truthfully thank goodness I have George. George is his own being and a stark difference from my past boys. He is not a Marans, he is not a silkie, he is George.

It was the way she went out of her way to attack her that got me.
I have never seen mine do that.
I have hens that do that when some are in the nest box, but not during roosting, that’s mostly just pecking. Having the two separate hen houses helps, but I laugh because the older ladies all go in the first hen house and won’t let most of the youngsters in there. A few of them go on there from time to time and are allowed to stay. Shirley likes to stay with the older ladies in hen house A.

But no one hauls anyone off the ledge.

Congratulations! Oh I so look forward to seeing their new journey with you ♥️♥️♥️

I am so glad you bought them both home, it would have been hard for them to be all alone it in a new place.
