We feed Kalmbach 20% flock maker. Treats like table scraps, veggies, fruits, oats, and dried bsfl only occasionally. The eggs we ate were all from the past 2 or 3 days so I doubt they were bad, but we'll start doing the float test before we use them.

I thought at first it was because of the milk grandma used in the scrambled eggs (I'm lactose intolerant and she never thinks to use my lactose free milk 😅), but dad pointed out that I also had the same reaction when we had plain fried eggs.

It's so weird! These eggs are so delicious but my stomach HATES them!
Is there something in the feed ingredient list you're allergic to?

Did you start a new bag recently?

Did the ingredient listing change from earlier batches?

Did the ingredients get a change in growing/harvesting techniques?

Did they change the source of some of the ingredients?

If you've been fine with the eggs in the past, and now aren't, then something has changed. It's possible to develop allergies, but it's also possible something they're eating has changed and that's what you're having trouble with.

So... Guys... I have a question and I'm sorry it's kind of gross but I genuinely have no idea where else to ask 😅

My dad and I both get major diarrhea after eating our chickens' eggs. I think I have an intolerance to eggs in the first place but my dad is fine after eating store bought, but he's on the toilet all night after having our eggs.

Has anyone else dealt with this?? We had scrambled eggs for dinner yesterday and both of us had stomach aches all night. Grandma was fine though.

We'll start washing the eggs just before we use them from now on just in case that's the reason but it shouldn't be if the eggs are cooked thoroughly, right?

I want to enjoy my eggs without paying for it later 😭
It is very possible you may have a bit of a egg allergy. My mom developed a egg allergy while pregnant with my sister. For years unless baked she could not eat a egg without it doing to her exactly what they have done to you. Mom loves eggs, and since she did not react in a life threatening way to them a few times a year she would purposefully suffer. It still happens every single time if she eats a fried, scrambled or even french toast made with store bought eggs. The first few times with our fresh eggs it happened, although not as severely. Since the affects were not as bad, still unpleasant mind you she started eating mine more frequently. She has slowly built up a tolerance to mine. They now only affect her adversely about 1 out of every 5 times she eats them. That is a win in her book and she is back to her favorite breakfast for dinner around once a week.

I'll have to compare the ingredients next time we pick up their food. It is possibly I'm intolerant to something in their feed. Though I won't know that until I can have more testing done on my guts. :th

Personally I've always had issues with eggs, as far as I can remember. But my dad hasn't so that's more concerning to me.

Yeah sounds like you may have a reaction to something in the feed. I was allergic to eggs for many years, they gave me migraines unless baked into something. I did outgrow it after like 3 or 4 years. Mine was also tied to cat allergies I think, I had a constant immune load from being around them.

It very well could be they are too rich for your gut. I had to adjust to eating those little nutrition bombs, and I will again when mine start laying. Do you have any nutrient absorption issues? And if this is too personal, feel free to not reply, I won't be offended!

No worries, I don't mind talking about it. It affects me daily so at this point I'm like, whatever, I'm gonna complain about it whether people want me to or not 🤣

I don't know what my gut issues are. I haven't had enough tests done. I had some scheduled a couple years ago (allergy test, and an appointment with a digestive specialist), but I was having a really bad time mentally at the time so I didn't end up doing it. Now I wish I had.

My therapist pointed out that there's a connection between autism and digestive issues— living in fight or flight mode 24/7 because of overstimulation can wreak havoc on pretty much every system in the body. So it could be crohn's, or allergies, or celiac, or IBS which can only be diagnosed by ruling out everything else... Or a fun combination! Oy vey...

Tax for poopy talk 🤣

HEY! The nest is for EGGS, NOT POOP!

How did someone manage to poop on the vertical part of the bird bath stand...?

It's a poopy day today, apparently :gig

As promised I went out early and got pictures.

First off I am a idiot and apparently cannot count in the dark with a head lamp. Guess who greeted me at the back step? Yup, Barbosa. Little man spent the night outside of both coops. Thankfully neither he nor I paid for my stupid and careless mistake. I'm also thankful of his shoelace fetish. He has became very easy to scoop up if he is pecking at my shoes. I have learned carrying him inside the pen that I need to put a blocker by the door. I had a silkie stampede trying to escape. I will fix that first thing in the morning. It will be dark this evening when I get home to gather eggs so I should not have to worry about escapee's. I may try to put something in place tonight if I am not too tired. It is Tuesday, meatloaf Tuesday at the diner and by far our busiest day.

Goals for tomorrow. Block the door with something that I can step over. Start the process of taming the tiny terror Turkey. Turkey is a wild heathen who has had free reign and a terror of a momma so getting hands on has been a challenge. Confined I can now work with her one on one. I will win her over.

Whoa Nelly! I bet you were freaking out when you saw him! Glad all was ok.

Great photos of Silkie sweeties. Glad you found 'Bosa! Same thing happened to us years ago ~ found the missing Silkie "Mini" snuggled inside a dog house against the garage corner where there's no draft. Hard to find a black Silkie in the dark!

Do you have raccoons in your area? We have city raccoons who are known to manipulate gate latches. Suggestion ~ a lock on your pen door latch & move the Silkie perch further from the wall where 'coons can't tear the plastic sheet to reach for a roosting Silkie head or foot. I heard other BYCers tell of 'coons doing similar antics to grab their snoozing chickens.

Poor George must be confused ~ our sweeties get confused at change.

You do so much ~ kudos :clap
