Yes it can happen in an instance. My niece’s fiancé’s dog killed one of the ducklings my niece had. My cousin blamed herself as she let the dog out without double checking where the birds where.I do not trust dogs, nor will I ever.
We had one incident where someone brought a dog to a dinner party Mrs BY Bob was throwing poolside. They left their dog off the leash. In a flash Elphie was running through my legs and into the house and Daisy, the greatest hen ever, was cornered under the deck. I had to get the hose and soak the dog to get it to leave Daisy alone. The party was ruined and my chickens were beyond stressed.
Nope. No dogs running free with my chickens out of the complex. Tragedy can happen too quickly.

She scared the crap out of the cats when she came running in.
I have had many issues with neighbourhood dogs and the horses. My neighbours know to keep their dog contained, if I catch them on my property they get sent to the pound, and I do not tell them who owns the dog. Poor puppy, bad owners.

If I could drive I would nab him and set up the brooder plate in the little chicken church for him to live until the babies are older...he's so freaking handsome.
I NEED a polish rooster...
Today is a very sad day. I went out to the coop and found my beautiful Sunny dead on the coop floor under the roost. I bawled like a baby. She wasn't even 2 years old.
Yesterday she was fine, as far as I could tell. I have no idea what happened. I could not bring myself to do a necropsy. Just couldn't. I have her bagged up in the freezer, and I'll bury her in the garden when the ground thaws. I will not throw her away or let the raccoons have her.
She was my lap chicken. (Pip is too, but less so.) Sunny would let me pet her. I petted her when I took out chickie snack yesterday afternoon.
I cried again when I took out chickie snack today, because she wasn't there.
