Growling? They're just going stir-crazy. Put up some toys...a chicken swing, a mirror, a sturdy bell, a hanging cabbage or veggies to peck at, etc. I've seen toy xylophones in some people's runs...I guess whatever keeps them busy? Some of this stuff can be DIY. We have a mirror for a sick bird cage & they love looking at themself. They lick the mirror so it has to be cleaned once a week

It happened while Esme was on the nest. Magrat jumped up and was looking in, so I think Esme was just telling her to back off and wait her turn. That was the first time I ever heard it!

They do need more stuff to do. I'll have to clean and sanitize one of the suet feeders and put some veggies in it or something, for a start.

I gotta ask....how'd he get named Whiskey?

He was chocolate with a orangey gold face as a chick and kept getting all sorts of Whiskey colors as he feathered in. Also, until he got hit with the really bad frostbite, his comb was shaped like a crown.

Will Mr. Rooster be okay by himself in the white coop? Or should I set my other brooder plate up suspended above the roost so he can stay warm when it gets below freezing?

What are your temps? It cannot be that cold.

So am I. It's been a long time since there were no crests around here.

Maybe next time you're ready to go for a crest, it will be time for a "feather duster", a "Thing" Houdan, or an Appenzeller Spitzhauben....for a different sort of crest.

I am going to miss seeing this little babies all day, but it's moving day. They have a much better place to grow and live in the coop.

I thought formal introductions would be in order, since it will be very difficult to get any pictures for a while until they are wanting to come out from under the sweeter heater.

My new loves!!! (although i love all my chickens!!!)

This is Mary. She is an active little girl that is curious about everything except people. She just wants to hang out with her own tribe at this point.

This is Bossy. She is the one to stand in front when we approach the bin. She has charged my hand, pecked at me, and talks up a storm all the time. I'm pretty sure I will have a special relationship with her. Also, she absolutely will not stand still for a portrait.

This is Sweet Sue, which will probably get morphed into Susie Q. She is a bit shy, but extremely sweet. Being the easiest to handle, I think she will be a friendly one. She is definitely not going to be the leader of the pack, but she loves cuddling and hiding behind the other two chicks.
