He was chocolate with a orangey gold face as a chick and kept getting all sorts of Whiskey colors as he feathered in. Also, until he got hit with the really bad frostbite, his comb was shaped like a crown.

He is just gorgeous. 🤎 🧡 🤎

Hey I am having deja vue here - I feel like I have seen this before....
Pony, a very nervous guy walks into a library and asks the librarian if she has any books on paranoia or schizophrenia?
She whispers to the guy, “Yes, those books are on the shelf right behind you !”

Maybe next time you're ready to go for a crest, it will be time for a "feather duster", a "Thing" Houdan, or an Appenzeller Spitzhauben....for a different sort of crest.
Definitely, no feather dusters. I can only imagine how someone would react.

I have thought about Houdans and Appenzellers before. Whatever it might be would have to be "sold" to Mrs BY Bob somehow.

Maybe FBA should stick with Polish, and your other birds. :idunno
Maybe add a Speckled Suspect?

1. the Spitzhaubens are supposed to have forward facing crests....like punk rockers....and not need trimming to be able to see.

2. Houdans have beards like Aurora does, and the full crest, and 5 toes....and at least with Thing 2, I could walk out and catch her any time for anyone to touch (for those who had never been near chickens before). Crest will definitely need trimming, possibly upper part of beard too.

3. Both are black and white mottled all over like Exchequer Leghorns.

4. A trio of black and white birds: exchequer leghorn, appenzeller Spitzhauben, and mottled houdan for the new additions: 1 beard, 2 crests, 3 mottled markings

Well, everyone. Grandma's eye is still not doing well and what give me the heebie-jeebies is that everytime she moves her eye, the little something in her eye goes under the skin and oi. I touched it lightly and I could definitely feel it. I don't know if it hurts her. It probably doesn't, however I noticed that when I put each fingers close to both eyes, she is more triggered to close her left eye than her right eye, but of course her right eye is going to do the same. It's just less triggered because her right eye doesn't have a little bubble in it. I've seen worse on other chickens but I just... Oi it freaks me out every time I see it. Also, that black thing that's on there is a hair that might've came from her.

I may take the older chicks out later this week, supposed to be 60°F. They can hang out in a dog crate for a half hour or so. The youngest need a couple weeks to de-fluff though. I'm not going to brood them in winter again, it's too cold to toss em outside to grow up and it's driving me nuts. I'm going to need to dust, and vaccuum, and wipe down, and dust, and so on and so forth.
I worried about Georgie with her two, but they did well. I had the sweeter heater for them to hang out under if they were chilly and mama didn’t want to snuggle them. But they did well. And it was a very cold winter this year. Though not as could as I have had it in the past, no -30C temps. And only a few -20c temps. So that was a blessing. As long as they have a warming station out of the draft and really sheltered they should be fine.

Well good thing is the eyeball isn’t involved, it does look like the conjunctiva is involved, can’t tell if her inner eyelid is involved.

Any chance is seeing a Vet about it?

Man, hubby says I'm not keeping this guy. 😆 I promise I will do whatever I can to get him across state!

And in three months when he's settled in y'all can quote this post and laugh.
Go e hubby a hug and a kiss and let him know that you have the best intentions with this Roo.

But we are only Hooman and so what’s a girl to do when she falls for a handsome guy 😊💕

Generally close to freezing at night. Tonight is supposed to be 28°F but the rest of the week should be above 30°F.
If I was brave enough to seperate the chicks, the oldest are only a couple of weeks away from going outside themselves.
He will be just fine alone. Nothing to worry about from the temperature.
