I think this may be a more advanced lesson than I am ready for!
Basically, it's another sex-link. Red (gold) covers the silver. Pullets get the silver from papa, no gold from mama so are silver. Cockerels get silver from papa and gold from mama. Silver washes the gold to a lighter tone (yellow) so cockerels will be light gold. Basically, they'll look like Whiskey's breast (no black tail, I think), but lighter. All will have crests like your legbar ladies.

For those who have been sad for George on loosing his silkie girls. Yes, that includes myself by the way. After today's observations I can safely say to not feel bad for George. He now has a new leading lady who he is shadowing and vice versa.

Who is the new object of George's affection you many ask?

None other then this pretty lady Mrs. E

She is very much a standard sized dark brahma, and oooooohhhhhh, she's gorgeous!

I wonder if that would work with Mr P and the Buff Orps here.

I feel for you - I really do. But Hoare Frost is beautiful - and yes sharp as needles!

Soon it will be nice out there also. And your chooks will be trying like mad to escape like mine!
I am still expecting some -40 weather. I'm kind of disappointed that it hasn't been very cold this year. Yes, I am really weird that way!

All right maybe not, but the hoar frost (also called rime - pronounced 'rhyme') is very beautiful. Also, when it's cold, sometimes you can see sun dogs. One that I got a picture of is in my profile picture. It's like a rainbow around the sun.

My chickens cannot escape from their run. They can however knock a bunch of disgusting poopy straw in front of the door and prevent me from coming in. But when I remove their covered run, they'll try to escape. There was one chicken last year named Pi and she would not stop escaping. She even found some sort of place in the woods by the barn and went broody. The only way I caught her was when she came back for some food. I locked her in a cage and sold her soon after.

Happy 3.14 day everyone. I don't think I have any new fluffy butt pictures to share with you today, I haven't really brought my phone out to the coop lately.

Interesting. Can you post a picture when you get a chance. Just curious as it obviously doesn’t bother Pooh at all.
I’ll grab a pic tomorrow. I tell you it bugged me so much I wanted to haul them out - they weren’t symmetrical and it really bugs me hahaha.

So just imagine my glee when they finally fell out! And then my irritation when they grew back in the same! Plus a couple more! Wouldn’t be so bad if they were on both sides like Pooh! At least she’s balanced! 😆

I was up at 1am this morning and saw the blood moon but not very clearly thru this horrible dust! We did finally get rain so yay! But we have occasionally gust of wind up to 75mph.

Like I said, I could not get any clear pictures of the moon since the sky was full of dirt.
Here is one picture

Stay warm!

I have seen many sun dogs - I should dig out my photos and post sometime ♥️

Wow I remember your hen Pi, didn’t realize she was a brat! And a lucky one to not be eaten! Hopefully she is behaving for her new owner!

Maybe....I say that because of his yellow tones....dunno if he's dominate white or recessive white...actually....isn't he splash with wheaten leakage? Should make pullets blue....with a bit of gold leakage? And cockerels red and blue? (Not Blue Breasted Gold as neither has the Black Breasted Red thing).....NOW YOU HAVE TO HATCH THAT COMBO! WE NEED TO KNOW!

I don't know, but there are many things I would treat the whole flock for. For example, if one sniffles and sneezes, they all get VetRX in their water. Or if one displays any symptoms of coccidiosis, they all get Corid in their water. So, it would depend on if there are an adverse effects to the medication you are using. Maybe ask in the emergencies thread?
Teehee...I was just asking for gen'l curiosity. If I had an issue my vet is 10 mins away to inspect or test a bird for me. It seems like there are many viral & bacterial infections that chickens carry or inherit from a parent...so many I can somewhat understand the poultry industry not being concerned to have a vaccine, cure, or treatment for so many issues.

Even the gen'l public is getting somewhat aware of chicken issues when today my therapist learned we had chickens she said, "Ooo, you have fresh eggs you didn't have to search for in the store!" People become chicken aware when shortages or high prices hit their pocketbook.
