Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Hmmmm so 1/4 tsp is 1000mg (1g).

I only need 50mg! Hmmmmm this is complicated.

Well I went and ordered a kitchen scale that does mg weight on Amazon, so should be here tomorrow. Hopefully it arrives early.

In the meantime I will think about dosing the whole flock. It’s 500mg/L so I can do 2000mg (2g) easily, and fill up my 4L container. That would be 1/2 a tsp - easy enough to measure out.

I can always syringe that mixture into Clyde to make him get some.

I can always waste any eggs if I don’t feel comfortable finding a definitive answer to the egg withdrawl.

Show us a picture of the label!

1/8 to 1/16 is divided by 2. 500mg to 50mg is divided by 10. Something's off in the calculation thing.

I have decided to wait for the kitchen scale I ordered to arrive. Don't want to kill off the silly boy. Meanwhile he is acting fairly normal, youth and hormones account for that I think. But seeing him dirt bathing last night was nice to see. Makes me feel more at ease.

I have been seeing lots of birds starting to migrate here, and lots of song birds now going about with their Spring time rituals. Time for me to start worrying about A. Flu I guess. Always something to worry about isn't there?

The virus is tough and can survive cold and freezing temperatures, as well as survive in aquatic environments."

Here's an interesting study on Bird Flu in relation to weather patterns.

Oh definitely, it's still something to be alert about! But the virus is much less likely to survive after being shed in the heat and dryness of summer, which is good news for our flocks. Of course that doesn't mean cases drop to 0%, but they do drop considerably.

I feel like March and into early April might be particularly bad here because it is still cool, and it's wet because of the snow melt and rain we get. And the waterfowl migrating back up here. After that, I think we should be relatively safer.

But remember it isn’t summer here

The hot dry weather here doesn’t get here until July - that is many months to get through (ugh I hate winter), many months of worry. The danger times for here are Spring and Autumn. Those are when the virus is most prevalent in the environment, due mainly to migarating birds.
