I love cats & chickens together. Who'd ever guess they were so compatible 💕

My cat is terrified of the chooks, she won’t go to the barn at all.

Another dreary morning, she won’t stay out long.

Missy is smart to know when she's outnumbered by birds :D

Blue is MASSIVE compared to little grey Roadrunner.
Also the other one I believe is marans x brown leghorn in front. He's very slender

This marans is getting quite bold. Eats out of my hand and will jump on my shoulder like Red does. Does not want pets or chest scritches though.

Missed posting this fluffy red butt on Friday.
They are all lovely 💕 Periwinkle w/ a hawk face...some chickens do have that look.
That's why I bought this hawk ring to remind me of our Breda Fowl "Char" w/red eyes too:

I have a very determined broody - I finally relented last night and let her keep a few eggs.
I have another one who is '1/2 broody', lol. She is off the nest for about 3-4 hours in the morning - then sits tight the rest of the day and all night. ?Don't know how she thinks she could successfully hatch that way!???? But at least she gets off the nest herself and completes her daily self care....but she sits tight on NOTHING, because if someone gifts her an egg, I promptly take it.
Chicks. So exciting! :wee :wee :wee

I seem to have terrified my chickens!

I noticed some tent moth tents full of caterpillars in some wild cherry trees.

Thinking I was being kind and generous I headed out to the field with a little pruning saw and brought the whole branch back to the Chicken Palace.

You would think I had brought a hawk to visit. Nobody will go near them and now I am to be avoided too apparently.

Not even Piglet, who until today had never encountered anything that she wouldn’t at least taste, would go anywhere near them.
I even threw some corn on the ground nearby and they looked at me with disgust that I would try and trick them that way.
🙁
Birds have an instinct what not to eat. They can tell by just looking at a bug whether good or not to eat. Our hens are particular about avoiding most caterpillars especially horned tomato worms ~ & won't touch slimy slugs/snails that a duck would go wild for!
