7/10 cockerels crowing. Honestly one of them might be a wattle-y hen for all I know. Breezy and Cemani are still quiet, but they are slow growing breeds so they will eventually.

Yeti Feathers. She bit kiddo through the fence the other day, oops. I told her so many times it would happen if she stuck her fingers through, sadly she had to learn the hard way.

Blue is huge, and lil Nosy Posy is still living up to her name.

"Cooper" the very observant marans boy. He is the one I think I'll give to the neighbor, instead of "copper" his shorter brother. I was doing health checks last night and Coops was very close by making sure I didn't hurt or try to breed with the birds as I checked them. Good boy potential right there. Plus he likes kiddo.

Even Cemani came over for some of the succulent leaves kiddo was handing out, and he's so shy. 20250508_111750.jpg

That is a cute pic 💕 !! Amazon is just too big for them to manage well any more. Yesterday they delivered us a wrong order ~ they refunded us cuz it was a pharmacy item they won't take back...but today the new order arrived correctly. They are so huge there's bound to be mistakes made.
Amazon should be honest about what they are able to do. This charity would crash if they can't receive their wishlist. It's really simple a customer pays for the transaction to be delivered to the farm. Or Amazon leave a message explaining you have to manually add the address.

I can't add apps to my phone, I have a really awkward mobile. I even have too phone for help to get updated protection, or apps just add to my phone and slow everything down, even calls .So I was really dependent on this wish list service

Good morning everyone.

Oh my goodness, I just snuck a peek into the incubator and I am in shock. I have 8 out, 1 very fresh and wet and cannot tell the color yet. Those that I can tell the color on...5 solid blue and 2 no doubt blue partridges. I'm stunned and very blessed with a good selection of chicks. I originally hoped for 2 or 3 blues to keep and grow out in hops of pullets. Now, I think I will hold back 4. 2 solid blue and both those little blue partridge chicks. I think in about a hour I am going to take a chance and remove 5 of the chicks and put them in the brooder. They are very active and need to come out as they are bumping the eggs around.
Wow! Congratulations! I can’t wait to see more photos - 🥰

Wow they have grown up so fast!
Gorgeous!

I am another weedy yard person. I have one area I only mow once a year so everything does it stuff. And like @RebeccaBoyd 's grandmother I am not above grazing from the back lawn.
I share my Artemesia (Common Mugwort/Wormwood) with the chickens.
Pooh collapsed in a clearance between the big clumps of Mugwort.

So, are they continuing Babs' habit of manicuring the Artemesia to keep pathways open? It looks like it there - but not sure if it is just that it hasn't 'taken over' yet this season or not.

BTW: That looks like a GREAT spot for sunbathing! Shade and food for nibbles just steps away - yet still full-on sun to enjoy. Like being at Hampton Beach without all the extra people!

How do you prepare/use Artemesia? I think I have a boatload here, too.

Another Janie thread photo 😆

It’s been too chilly for collapsing chooks here.

But Jaffarra had word with me on her weather expectations….

Still itchy and broken out. Breathing fine though. My mom thinks I'm allergic to chickens 🙄
Oh, no, I hope not! I was gifted a few ducks a couple of years ago because the person's mom was allergic to them. She didn't believe her, but when they were big enough to go out of the house into their own coop....suddenly mom's symptoms went away - so, yup, mom was allergic to them :(

So, she was 'stuck' with just fresh chicken eggs. (She stated duck eggs were better for her, given some medical conditions, than chicken eggs, which is why she got the ducklings in the first place.)

I gave her 2 dozen duck eggs when she brought them over....she was surprised, but happy...and I still felt I got the better deal!

Oh my! Yeah I really hope it's something other than chickens. I was able to get hypoallergenic body wash at the store yesterday, that was nice to not have to use an ivory soap bar. 😆 it's so drying!

Tax, here are the little darlings about ready to move outside to the heated coop.
Definitely not used to leghorns, they're so active and look at the combs already!!! Maybe these girls will have big flopover ones.

And then there's Dream, so tiny in comparison. Hubby asked if she's staying with the newborns when they hatch, so I need to think about that for a bit.

Would you be willing to share recipes? And pics of each of the greens?
I'll have to go look and see if I can get pictures. The grass has been mowed since I noticed them.

Cooking is fairly easy. Grandma always removed any dead leaves, roots or debris from the greens. Then we washed them several times. She would then cook them all together in the same pot. Greens, water, and her go to, bacon grease to season. It did not take long, 30 minutes to a hour depending on how big of a pot she was fixing. Serve it up with a slice of fresh out of the oven cornbread and if you have them on hand fresh green onions and enjoy.
