Melon-Choly Ladies

Normally when I introduce something new to the chicks they are very cautious. Not so when they got their first watermelon today. They jumped on it and started eating like they had not eaten in days. They loved it!

It's a chick fix for you @Ponypoor

How is Curly now? I searched to see what's happened and didn't get any post - did you feel her full of fluid and drain her?
Well she didn’t feel full of fluid, so I am just keeping an eye on her. If she gets short of breath again I might give her some prednisone.

I put Clyde on some
as he was wheezing like crazy and sneezing. His breathing is much better and I don’t hear him sneezing, I have started weaning him off of the med.

Sophia has been having light coloured clay/green poops - solid not runny, not sure what up with that, she has lost a lot of weight so I started her on some antibiotics. She is about 7 yrs old now, so anything goes with her.

These chooks are as much trouble as the horses!

I always keep rooster Booster vitamins & electrolytes on hand.
I just put it in their water. I am ordering , Rooster Booster Poultry Cell, 32-Ounce. I have had it in the past and for some reason stopped getting it.
This is what is in it,

and heres why I am getting it. The hens went through a hard molt over winter. their feathers took a long time to come back. when they did they looked great but now, they all look like this.

I have done the mite and lice work and they all have had good baths so that is covered. I feed then Scratch & Peck Layer Pellets. I like it because it is truly Organic, and USA sourced and is not made with canola or soybean oil.- BUT I think it is lacking in enough nutrients.

So, I will keep ya posted if i see any change.
I would almost say that is an overly zealous rooster breeding them - and have a few like that.

The only supplement I give is a calcium and Vit D one. It goes on their water and I give it twice a week in the winter, once a week now it’s summer. They get enough sunlight to make Vit D now.

The product I use is from Chick N Swell, they have a whole line of vitamin and health products.

Now who else has a cat who lays like this?

So I don't have much to say for a chick update. Anything I wanted to say has been forgotten. The only thing I will say is we're trying to avoid the cat from being with the little ones. From a mosquito net screen (whatever those are called), we showed him the little ones and he climbed to the window and meowed. He either wants them or is jealous because we are devoting all of our time to them.
They also like to sit on their feed bowl and dig in their food. Literally.

Awwww they are so cute.

And yea I have a kitty cat who lays in unusual positions 🥰

My update is a sad one. The Mamasita from next door, with the two babies, well both babies have died and she has now been hanging around with my other chooks. Nacho decided to sleep in the coop with the other chooks. Mamasita is perched just outside, being close to the other birds. For the life of me, I will never understand chicken behavior.
The one fact that I do understand, is that if you give lots of love to your pets, that love returns back to you.
