That is a nice looking shed! Our SoCalif summers are so brutal we were afraid to get a plastic coop as they look so easy for cleaning but we were afraid of warp issues from searing sun. Even after getting our sturdy barn coop we still added a patio roof overhead cuz the new coop still had leaks in the rain plus the patio roof shades the coop from the brutal summer sun.

P.S. Don't be surprised if your Silkies dogpile to sleep on the coop floor or inside the nestboxes rather than using the roosting bars. We have one Silkie that doesn't even like climbing a ladder/ramp or block steps!
My brats like to get up really high with the others - makes me so annoyed! It's one of the reasons I tore out the roosts and put in the ledges - the Silkies were able to fly up onto the window, and also during squabbles they would get knocked off the roosts.

Curly 2022 roosting in the window ledge - watching the sunset haha.

I can see the frizzle feathers now that I know what I am looking for. She would have been about 8 months old there.

the hedge is blooming and chooks are JUMPING. Apparently the seeds AREN'T the only thing they like. The flowers within reach are mostly stripped out....and the Feathered Sneaks are bold enough to wrap around the end of the hedge while I'm out with Sherlock.

Sherlock has been a VERY GOOD BOY, ignoring the chickens or sitting down and looking to me (Mom, make them move so I can go through there)

The cows were up close to the fence again this evening, so I took advantage of the proximity to impose another "Leave It!" lesson. He tried bolting to go play chase, ignoring voice commands, and the collar (98% never used) stopped him before he crossed the fence. He came bolting back and proceeded as if they were not there. Chase the tennis ball....repeat.... until heading towards bed, then ears up with interest but responded to voice command. Whether another lesson will be needed (possibly annually as the cows aren't in that field year round) remains to be seen.

Dairy mug, love hearing the bells.

That's looks like a very nice solution for them. Nicely done. :thumbsup
Nice job! Well done! It looks great ♥️
Thank you both, it was a lot of work but I feel like I have a safe place for them to tuck their heads under their wings to rest now.

Thank you 😊 I have a HUGE tree that shades the area the coop is in for a large portion of the day and their run is covered as well. I think I would have been less inclined to use the plastic shed had it been in full sun.

Thank you, I appreciate the heads up on the silkies. I am thinking (hoping) that because they grew up the SFH’s they will want to be with them but I am prepared to make further accommodations if needed.

I knew going in that they needed a little extra tlc but my daughter is good at those puppy dog eyes 🥺 so here we are. If they choose the nest boxes then they do, I will just have to be extra vigilant about keeping it clean. The things we do for love ❤️.

I am happy that they all get along very well currently. The silkies do seem to remain completely mystified as to how and why the SFH’s take flight so easily and often.
