My polish roos were super obvious in the face by like 6 weeks. They were the smaller variety though, Ric flair was several weeks older than Versace but shorter.

Peaceful flock right now. Butchered the three worst boys. Hubby says to keep an eye on Comrade because he was being mean to the girls, but I think it was the early morning hormones.

Hopefully with less boys poor Yeti won't be as picked on.

Cute lil Marans mug. She needs a name along with her two nearly identical sisters.

My Dakota loves 🌽 corn. Any kind of corn. Cob, canned, bbqd, fried, mixed vegetables with corn in it.
But I told her that “those who live by the corn will die by the corn!”
She didn’t care, she just squawked “open the can now, hurry!”
Ps. I don’t make this stuff up!

Those very much do look like new feathers.

Every batch of chicks I have goes through a phase of "tatty" tail feathers with new ones growing in around them. Until the hackle/saddle feathers start coming in (12-14 weeks), the only feather gender indicators I watch for are the breast colors within breeds that carry the differences. All the other things (wing growth pattern, slow feathering, tail feather growth) mean absolutely nothing unless they've been specifically bred for it. Hatchery stock...feather growth status is unknown. My motley crew feather growth status is unknown: aka not bred for it thus irrelevant.

Being patient and enjoying they're daily growth and changes will bring answers soon enough. I'm going to sit back and simply enjoy the young time.
Sound advice. Thank you.

I think I'll wait for the egg or the crowing? It still looks like less long rounded feathers compared to the other chick ~ but then, Polish id'ing is not my forte. If they were sold as pullets then I'll go w/ the breeder. Anticipation......🩷
I chose them based upon head poof. Trying to sex them by poof. Who knows how I did?
