Interesting idea. Sort of taking a bet that Tassels is less contaminated than everyone else.
Hmmm.
Maybe give her a bath to wash dirt and dust off her, dry fluff and put her in a clean brooder crate in an area away from the others, wait for a few days to acclimate, then introduce some 6 day old chickies.

I put 4 day old chicks under unproven Sophia and she did great.

Well it was not raining this evening so I could let the little ones out. After the big girls had gone on to bed the littles starting looking around for a place to roost. (Why do little chickens want to stay out so late?) They looked quite urgently. Many peeps were uttered.

They tried the stump for size but it was wanting.

They are so cute ☺️ head poofs just bobbing all around. Glad they found their way back in.

Mine are getting inside now as well, it is such a relief when they get to that point isn’t it?

Today is a outside work day. Planted 3 deck pots: 2 colors of petunias and an assortment zinnias. Also weedwacked the patio bed, excavated part and planted a lupine. Then had to fence it as Whiskey was encouraging the ladies to dig around it in the freshly turned dirt.View attachment 4135133

Cleaned and filled hummingbird feeders, 1 hung on new railing hook, others awaiting longer arms to go up (DS Will be hanging them later today around the patio)View attachment 4135132

Refilled the scratch bin and they got a handful as the gathered outside the door to watch. Checked the location of Sherlock's ball as it rolled off the deck while planting. Need the throwing stick to retrieve it as it bounced into the nook behind the wood pile.View attachment 4135131

The hung feeder has already been found as a bird whizzed away when I headed back inside.

I wonder what they are saying? 🤔 it’s surely a conversation of some sort.

I need a refresher on which is which - now they have grown I can tell them apart but can't match head-gear to name.
Crazy hair = Niamh
Smooth Coif = Nimue
White tips on tail = Nimue
White wing feathers = Niamh

The trouble with one day old is that the stats from studies suggest I would lose half of them to Marek’s in the first 2 months.
Same as if they were not vaccinated.
If I wait 10 days then 90% will survive.
Small breeds at 6 days maybe? Or take a risk on 5 days. Hard to know what to do.
I know. This is the problem. Studies are showing that shorter time periods will still confer immunity. You are going to have to judge what's best and take a risk.

Wish I knew why some birds don't want to go to bed. Last night DH said he'd close the coop when he gets home at 8:00 so I never did the lockup. When DH got home & walked into the yard from the back door little Keiko looked up at him from the porch while roosting on our giant push broom. The silly little clown could've been a snack for one of our city possums or raccoon! We're not waiting for lockup now that we've got TWO Silkies that hesitate to go in the coop to roost ~ Ginny & now Keiko. I wonder if they're related to @RebeccaBoyd 's Poppet?
