@BY Bob as per request: broody leghorn (mix, but above 50% leghorn)

Volume alert. Her Tuk-tuks are pretty quiet. The crowing is pretty loud.

Is broody PITA even more PITA than the usual PITA?
I noticed that you hung way back while filming. Is she on the attack?

Notice her going for the ladies around her? She's moves away, under the russian olive....which has spines...so....if I hang back, she's more inclined to do normal things and I'm not getting scratched, stuck, or entangled. She's clearly got a broody bubble around her and EVERYONE had better respect that! Being as she's never been broody before, I'm going to err on side of caution and give her space rather than have her move to a hidden location or abandon the nest. She and Nellie are the 2nd oldest hens, behind only Pear. Storm is 10 weeks younger and the only other hen ranked above PITA (Storm, Pear, PITA, Nellie, then ranking gets murky). If she's successful in hatching, the chicks will be well protected.

I can’t access a burrow to put the smoke in. I can’t try with the burrow I can see in the run but what I learned last night is that is not where he goes to escape. He goes somewhere I cannot reach.

Yes they do! I read about people taking away the food at night but I have been watching this rat for a while now and he never bothers to stretch up to reach into the feeders because there is so much food available on the ground. I think the Princesses prefer to eat it off the ground too so they shovel it out.

I know how to set a rat trap and I will not drown one as it is not a humane way to kill.
When I come to kill him I will use a snap trap or an electric trap.
The point however, is that once he is dead he will not be able to give me any clues as to how he is getting in. I really prefer to exclude before I kill.
Right now I am certain he is on his own - he is under constant surveillance inside the Chicken Palace - but if he has a tunnel in from the outside then something else might come in.

Rat tax: Tassels down!

Yep...we all gotta do what's best for our areas. As for humane... the electric zappers take up to 2 minutes to kill... same as drowning. Killing is killing any way we look at it:idunno If cute rodents weren't so destructive (rabbits, mice, rats, gophers, hamsters, etc) I'd leave them alone but they are not safe to have around loose☹️

How could this happen? I woke up with chills and now I have a fever of 100.4F :idunno

Update, now it’s reading 101.3f
And I feel a little dizzy. I had plans for today, but not with a fever hanging on.

A day of rest sounds great 👍🏼

Weather says it will top 100f today so I will surely be warm.
Drink water or tea with no sugars w/a fever. Prayers 🙏 for your recovery💕 Get well wishes.

Beautiful chicken haven, natural cover, property. Amazing what chickens find to forage in the wild. She is lovely. How many roos do you have? Do the roos form their own little groups? We can't have a roo here☹️

:goodpost: That's the best advice.

@featherhead007
As @Sylvester017 has said drink as much fluid as possible broth and fruit juice. The latter, squeezed lemon or orange into water could help lower the temperature and give you body a fighting chance with their vitamins.
I hope you have some berries there for their quercetin benefits

Keep a cool bowl of water nearby your bed with a cloth, to keep cooling your body down. I find the back of the neck wrists and inside my elbows dabbed with cool water, cools me down a lot quicker.

Have a fan near you can easily reach to switch on and off.

Get well soon Alex. :hugs

I am both sad and happy, young Jolly boy will be going to a new home tonight. Apparently he will become a spoiled pet, and have 10 RIR and a bunch of young chicks to watch over.

I will make sure to trim up his topknot before he leaves so he can see ok!
That's good news💕. Silkies are really a popular chicken here.
