Hahaha, he’s not impressed with my intrusion into his domain IMG_5410.jpeg

Yes indeedy!

Sadly, I am pretty sure it is one of those two things. I told her if she had to get into trouble she picked a good time, as she is completely avoiding the heat wave. She is a good houseguest though, so no worries. It takes as long as it takes, if she is fighting so am I. ;)

Speed will be their friend for sure. I have only been through integration without a mama hen one time and it was rough. Drama lots of drama.

I will keep my fingers crossed that your babies come through with just their pride hurt a bit and that the feather loss is minimal.
Well they have rooster Bob and maybe Hattie to help them. We will get the job done.

Whoohoo, my girls have behaved this week. Tomorrow is the trade day. Even with 2 girls out of commission raising chicks and 2 more broody and others on strike protesting the heat, as of this morning I have 3 full 18 counts and another half dozen eating eggs. I am 1 egg shy of 2 full dozen silkie hatching eggs as well. My goal with the silkies was at least 18 or as close to it as I could get. I'm hoping there is a good turn out tomorrow. If nothing else and I come home with all the silkie hatching eggs my incubator is empty and clean. Those can be tossed into it tomorrow night if need be.

I really need someone to show up with a couple day old chicks. I need 2 to shove under spooky to break her and I do not care what they are. Spooky's egg did not survive the hatching process Wednesday and she is not giving up. I feel for the poor girl and need to break her now in this heat but she is determined and stubborn. What I do not need is 6 which is the minimum if I have to run to Tractor Supply or Rural King.

The boxes are also a wonderful idea perfect playground for small chicks!
Yes, they will jump on top and rest there, and run in and out of the doorways. You can make new configurations of them to keep it interesting, like two boxes with the doorways lined up - somebody found something, so they were playing keep away, and she ran through the “hallways” making a turn or not - hard to tell which door they were going to come out of!
The boxes also make great hidey-holes for when something startles them, which I had forgotten to provide intentionally!
