So Navy Beans has been camping in the nests. Unless she has been laying tan eggs (she's supposed to lay blue-green) she hasn't laid yet.
She did the broody puff up though, not sure if she's thinking of going broody butt ALREADY or if she's going to be a nest-puffer like Shep was, she puffed up and made dino noises but never went broody.
Also Yeti is straight up cuddly now. She waited for everyone to go to bed and asked me to carry her around and give hugs. Brahma really are beaked teddy bears.

Integration Update

Everything has been pretty good. The Phyllistines are able to avoid the bigger ladies.

Yesterday evening we had a thunderstorm come through and the Phyllistines decided to shelter here.

This was fine until the rain started getting heavier. So I figured I should go out and lead them towards the big run.

So I headed out and got them to start following me towards the run. We got about half way there and then they stopped. That's when I saw the issue.

Lady Featherington was standing in the doorway to the big run.

She was not going to let them in.

So I decided to quickly provide them with an improvised dry spot and put a piece of tile over a chair.

I have an old wooden covered litterbox that I think I will fix up for them to use as a temporary shelter in case of rain like that.

Good thinking! And worked perfect I bet!

I let Fluffy get soaked, I wasn’t about to go running out in the downpour to get her! That rain was cold! Bad Kelly!

Tippy was smart enough to go to the back barn door and call me to let her in - she has me well trained.

Beaked teddy bears hahaha love it!

Holly is a nest puffer I feel. She is so darn cute when she tries to look all threatening. Red bopped her one yesterday for trying to intimidate her, poor Holly was shocked her tactic didn’t work!

I crushed an orange baby aspirin and mixed it with a little Greek yogurt which she loves and will take from my hand or a spoon, so with patience for her eating speed I got most of it into her. The others got plain yogurt in another container which took them awhile to finish off.
Wait - looking at your water ratios - was a baby aspirin too high a dose? I am not thinking straight. She got close to 81 mg in one dose. Rats!

I thought I’d wait for the vet and potential tests to wait on the antibiotics.
I can wrangle them fine, it’s just that Hazel is so wary and just miserable with nerves. She’s not feeling well and it’s like she knows the drill, she is very wary of me approaching her.
She’s so nervous when I check her she does better when she’s standing on something high up, so I pick her up and put her on something. She hates to be handled. Even then she is trembling there but stays put because I place her where it’s not an easy decision to just leap off. I have given her antibiotics before by mouth/syringe and done the wrap with her on my lap. She will leave afterwards and hide under the coop. She says, No, thank you! to any rewarding treats. Not worth it in her mind!
It’s ok, many a time I have dropped an adorable on the floor and someone ran over and ate the whole thing, the silkies included, and they are all ok.

Now I cut them in half in the feedroom, and if I have a couple to dose I put them in a pocket. Dorothy ate a whole 500mg amoxicillin once. I dropped it on the floor and quick as a flash she gobbled it up.

This is one reason why I don’t let them in the feedroom anymore. Too quick to eat things I drop!

Poor Hazel. Some are just not that into socializing, Truly likes to be brushed and likes treats but only on her terms. I don’t take it personally, but she knows when she going to be ridden and runs off the brat!

Muffy isn’t much into being held and kicks like an emu to get away. Hence the scratches all over my legs trying to work on her bumble foot. Eli-too just puts up with it. They are like us, all different.

I hope I haven’t killed her. I’m sure she did not get the full aspirin but she should have gotten about 15mg? She’s five-six pounds tops. She is not bleeding anywhere or has any obvious injuries. I am making a dosage chart to stick to the box where these meds are stored. Oh man I do not think at all straight under stress and I know it, yet made this mistake too. :(
It’s ok - she is fine I am sure. Likely will feel a whole lot better too.

Sunday morning I got up and took my evening med dose - and was groggy all day, then took it as normal in the evening- have to say all those meds sure didn’t stop me from being up all night with my RLS though.

And I once dosed a yearling colt for a 1000lb horse with Ivermectin. When I realized what I did I freaked out called my Vet who told me it would be fine. Sure did clear the worms out of him! And he was glorious with his shiny coat and grew a whole hand over the winter.

This was just before the puff! Navy always grumbles and makes skraa sounds so I'm not surprised.
