Did they actually wade into the water? We’re going to provide a wading pool tomorrow, but I’m REALLY skeptical.

Oh ya! They love paddling in the flooded ponding and generally making a mess. @RebeccaBoyd has chickens that catch minnows and crayfish.

July 2023, we had a huge thunderstorm with torrential rain, afterwards the chooks had a blast wading in the water catching all the bugs floating to the top.

Put some dirt on the pool, and then make it into mud, throw some scratch on top and watch them go silly

Then you can add a bit more water until it’s a couple inches deep. They can have fun digging and splashing.

March 2025 - yes that is still snow

They love digging in the muddy water and of course drinking the wild water.

Keep water level shallow & a brick to walk into & one to exit out easily.

Or even a ramp would be helpful I bet.

Pebble looking fabulous but also completely oblivious as to the location of his entire flock who had gone to roost for the evening. Both of the SFH Roos tried to come get him but he just kept on pecking and scratching. I had to go get him in and this is why supervision for free ranging is likely to remain necessary

Once he gets older he will stop that nonsense. Maybe. Still waiting for last year’s chickaloos to go to bed with the rest of the flock. Brats!!!
