A thirsty montage from the cochins. They'll be moving out to the coop soon! I'm debating if I want to keep Cinnabun and the lovely blue partridge in the main coop...they're so lovely I don't want to lose them to a hawk...but also they're younger than the rest of the main crew and haven't integrated yet... 20250724_203018.jpg

The tiny dish was to hold them over while I filled the waterer.
And BlackJack loves to be held and carried while I go fill the bucket and watering can for the rest. I think he then claims he did the work!

I have one large communal water bowl for the main gang and a water bowl in the Summer House with Mr P’s gang.

Outside they enjoy the flooded ground where I have been dumping the horses’ buckets and over flowing the buckets for the chooks.
Just 2! Wow!

I probably shouldn't call them cochins, they're mixed breed. 😆 i got a gentle lecture on Shads thread for calling my blue girls silkies! They're only 1/4 silkie but certainly act full!
It's easy to get a lecture on Shad's thread.

Yep - it’s a huge water bowl for a large dog, I dump it out nightly and clean it, next morning fresh water - both the bowls.

I found they prefer the bowls to the waterers and wouldn’t use the waterers if I had them available.

Of course the make a huge mess with the bowls but hey, if they want to make mess that’s ok. I really worried about the wattles getting wet and getting frost bite but so far that hasn’t happened. No wind in the barn to freeze the water on their wattles is what I figured.

So far we have white silkie looking birds, one of Navy's didn't seem to have a poof but they're from a mixed "fun pen"
I'm so excited to see who else hatches tonight!!! Little Early bird in the house is lonely
Can you give him to one of the broodies?

Oh so jealous you have oranges!

Do your chooks go out on the road? Or is that your drive?
Just the drive up and around to the other road. We’re on a corner. They’ve never gone as far as the road, thankfully. Unfortunately some unleashed dogs have come on the property. We do have coyotes but the Pups usually keeps them at bay during evening hours. She loves tussling with them. The dogs though… 😩 thankfully the one dog walker has learned and now leashes her out of control dogs.
Just took her too long to learn imo. I have names for her in my head that aren’t nice.
