They're all in the brooder. Amazong canceled my order for a popup brooder, I'm not very happy because I was counting on that to show up today!

The one egg Navy had tried assisting did not make it. There was yolk everywhere so I'm thinking it just wasn't ready when it cracked.
She still has 4 wonderful babies and 1 egg

Amazon is definitely not as dependable as they used to be.

Hatching chicks is so much fun. The last time we hatched any was about 35 years ago. Bought eggs through the mail, had a styrofoam box with a heater, no humidity control and a piece of hardware cloth for the top. Had to turn them by hand. I'm amazed we had any success. The kids loved it. 🥰

Enjoy those sweet babies! 💗

Two fluffy butts to wish you all a happy Friday.

Why??? There are plenty of other boxes available!
Well, you officially have a 'crowd' of chickens!:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau ( 3 is a crowd)

While I am not surprised - especially if at least one is broody, my first thought was "Really Girls, in this HEAT???♨️ Are you crazy???"

Thirsty Thursday

I was cleaning water dishes today and realized I have more watering stations than chickens.

View attachment 4181873

I have 8 in total as I had already placed 2 of them back into service.

It's takes me a long time to gather them all up, clean them, and then put them back. Here is where they are:
  1. Main Coop
  2. Cluckle Hut
  3. Big Run
  4. Grape Vines
  5. Magnolia Tree
  6. Deck
  7. Patio
  8. Lilac Bush/Shed
My hens have no excuse for not drinking. 🍸 🧉 🍷 🫖 🥛

How many water stations does everyone else have? Am I crazy?
I have 5-6 waterers but I have issues with so most of them. Does that mean I threw them away.. nope, so they remain as back ups. Now currently in use: 1 for the main flock but it’s HUGE. It’s a giant bucket and holds probably 30 gallons of water at least. I fill it up half way and it has a locking lid. I drilled and installed 4 nipples to it and a gravity drain for emptying. I refill every 3-4 days and give it a good scrub too. Is it too big yup, will they ever be without water nope. lol In the winter I throw in a trough heater and that keeps it from freezing.

I have chick waterers too, tiny one and bigger one as they grow. I also have several that didn’t work or drip, finding a good waterer is akin to finding a good water is so hard what is it so hard??? I have the good old black rubber bowl too which I do break out for treats and yard exploring when it’s hot but they usually ignore it and go down to the creek to snag some wild water.
Same here

Having to hotspot off my phone for internet to get the weather - under a storm watch….

Oh no about the StarLink, I am glad they got it fixed. Those fluffy butts are absolutely adorable 🥰

Chicks 🐣

Maple is trying to take off to parts unknown but alas she only got about 1/2 inch forward. Maybe next time little one!

Roxy - she has been a bit slower than everyone else and is a bit idk off? Keeping an eye on her. With that extra large poof I have to wonder if there is extra space in the vault that may explain her behavior? I had just cleaned up her butt in this photo lol so she was a little peeved with me. She is adorable though and very sweet.

Five waterers here in use right now:
1. Insulated Premier1 horizontal nipple waterer in the middle of the big run. Works great in summer, can put ice in there and it keeps it cool for a long time. It’s plug-in for winter
2. Doggie bowl closer to the coop, also plug-in for winter
3. Regular waterer under the netting, near the run door, near the roof catchment drain cup (does that count as a waterer? It is too shallow at present to be a reliable water source)
4. Regular waterer up in the woodsy rhododendron area under the netting
5. Chick vertical nipple waterer in their little run
I only have 2 water stations, 3 if it's extra hot out. And 2 of those are in the run. I should add more to spread out throughout the yard when it's so hot...
How is the bumble foot treatment going? I’ve missed if you’ve updated everyone.
