Mine love leftover pasta it’s beaks down their favorite snack for sure. I never would have thought to give them that, so I have Mrs. BYBob and you to thank for that idea 💡
We are so glad they love it. We love sharing ideas on what our chickens love to eat.

Nice job repurposing stuff to get the job done, I love it! Great work!
I love repurposing like that.
My husband is an expert at repurposing. Which is probably why our property looks like a scene from Sanford and Son, because he saves everything in case it comes in handy some day. 😂
(For you young whippersnappers who might not get the reference, Sanford and Son was a tv show about a junk yard.)

You go girls! I love that they found all those high spots - even if they aren't the safest!
They definitely found lots of high spots. But it taught me how to see things with their eyes. Everything up high is a potential roost, lol.

Me and Gizmo had a conversation again today. I really spilled my guts out, he just stood there listening to me. I asked him if he had anything to say, and after a long pause, he went “cockadooledoo” he’s such a great little guy.
Pics? I don’t think you have posted any good ones of him lately.

Anyways, I’ve really wanted a blue polish and a porcelain D’uccle for AGES so I am so freaking happy!
Please tell her that Angel, our Porcelain D’uccle, has turned out to be a spoiled little princess. Lol

How old are your girls now? Mine are about 14 weeks. Some are starting to turn red, but I'm thinking we won't get eggs until September.
I feel like these little ladies need to get laying!View attachment 4198869View attachment 4198870
I keep forgetting to post that some of my girls started laying. Including at least one of the silkies, which surprised me because they are only 18 weeks old. Will post them in a few minutes.

s. I definitely took some risks mixing sizes and two Roos of different sizes as well. But so far so good (knock on wood)🪵.
Fingers crossed it works out well for both of us. I also took the risk of mixing sizes, and have a rooster at both ends of the spectrum (Silkie and Chocolate Orpington). But I knew a few members on this thread had been successful at it.

First eggs!

So here are my girls who I have figured out are laying. A few others also might be but not sure who yet.

Sydney was the first, on August 2, at 16.5 weeks old

Pearl wasn’t far behind, on August 5 at 17 weeks.

Them came one of the sillies, either Ivory or Snowball. Pretty sure it was Ivory but not positive. This was on August 13, the same day we lost Jet. They are 17 weeks old.

Belle, one of the Cochin bantams, laid one the same day. She is a week older, 18 weeks. Her sister might have laid one since then but not sure.

Several others are really red. When I checked them all last week nobody else’s pelvic bones seemed quite ready yet, but some were getting close. The ones I expect to be next are whichever white Silkie didn’t lay the first egg, and Beauty, the other Cochin Bantam. Then two more of the big girls. Sheila (Australorp) and Hershey (Chocolate Orp).

I think Ebony(black silkie), Lucy and Ethel (Legbars) are still a few weeks away at least but they might surprise me. Cassie and Angel, the other bantams, don’t seem close at all. And of course the lavenders are almost six weeks younger so they should be a ways off yet.

They are so beautiful. The girls and their eggs. 💞

I'm anticipating that at least a couple of my girls will start laying around 16-17 weeks. But, as always they can be unpredictable.

Congratulations on first eggs!

That is young! I have had a couple drop eggs that young but usually around 23 weeks.

Re: Sanford and Son - great show!

I'm sorry for my absence. I explained to Alex that I am having seriously painful dental issues and it's really affecting my life. I hope to resolve this in a few weeks.

The Dental system both private and NHS is appalling inadequate. So I battle on.

I hope everyone is well and I hope to be back to normal on a fee week's.

Love to you all and your feathered family

Something to make you smile

Was wondering where you were. Hope you get some relief soon.

Mr P misses you on here!
