We've been living w/ the freeway trees & Spring Cooper's hatchlings for 14 yrs now. Have been fortifying the yard w/ hiding places for the hens & haven't lost one yet to hawks... but hopefully it's cuz the Sparrows are so plentiful for the hawks to harvest?!

We used to keep the hens confined to the fenced off chicken yard but after getting a nearly all-Silkie flock we opened up the people/garden bed/covered patios half of the yard also for more emergency hiding spots.

Sympathy pains w/you Marie... my 36 yr old filling/molar broke off & went to the dentist yesterday. 4 options available of what to do per the dentist... choice of which procedure depends on which procedure cost gets covered vs how much it will cost out-of-pocket! Pull the rest of the tooth root out for free or put in an $8,000 implant... hmmm... decisions decisions!

If i were you I'd pull the devil. Then think of an implant or denture further down the line. You shouldn't put an implant right away according to my friends dentist. It should have a healing process first. I wouldn't wish what I have had to anyone. Abscesses make us very ill and the pain is unbearable

Quick update from me. Had a bit of a health event requiring a 911 call (always high drama in a small town - the cops always show up before the volunteer first aid squad have got out of bed), ER then surgery, then hospital for a couple of days.

What happened???
Now you have me worried

Back home though will have to return for more surgery. All fine but feeling a bit beaten up.

Spent my time on the ward watching the chickens on camera. But just 4 days and the chicklet’s have grown a lot.
With enough of a running start Geronimo is able to get pretty much anywhere now!
Cookie has ridiculously fuzzy feet. I hope she grows into them. She is also a sun bather. I can’t get close enough to see what that pink is on her top knot. I don’t think it is an injury.
The hawk or goshawk or whatever it is has a mate and the two call and circle the skies around the coop constantly. It is very concerning. Tassels keeps an eye open for them at all times.

I had the follow up with my surgeon this morning. The bandage that was driving me crazy is off. It was not a pretty sight that greeted me, but that is ok. I have also been released from the sling. The order is in for physical therapy, just waiting on them to call and set it up. Looking like I will start that next week. The first round ordered, 1 month 3 times a week. After that they will reassess and see if I need more. The tear was not on the rotator cuff, it was on the tendon and muscles around the rotator cuff which is a good thing. It is also the reason I was not kept in a sling for 6 weeks. The tear was pretty bad though and there was a bone spur that was further fraying the muscles and tendons that they shaved off. We talked about pain control and I was given the go ahead to take 1 tylenol in between pain pills and extend the time. I've had 1 today, first thing this morning. I took my tylenol a hour ago. I'm going to try to make it until 9ish or 10 tonight so I can take it before bed. She did tell me that physical therapy would be bad and I would need them for those days. We will see.

Yes it is a relief for me, I was so worried about her. Blanche and Raven are the oldest now. Raven is 8 and I would say Blanche is also. Both are doing well, hopefully they stay they way for long while.

With the passing of Penelope, Sophia, Petunia and now Red, this year, I am down to 42. Not counting the chicks…. And of course I don’t count chickens till they hatch.

So sorry Red has gone four is to many to lose.

Still be careful with your chicke maths and kiss Mr. P for me
