Have to say, I am relieved to not see them hiding in the barn to keep cool.

Last night everyone was happily out and about. Sand bathing, and generally having a good old time as chickens - even the babies were out and about!

They look like pine cones and I have almost stepped on them a few times! I am so very very cautious now, I can’t move too fast with my vertigo these days so I stop, look, step. Repeat hahaha.

The late afternoon shadows with the pine tree makes it hard to see the big girls even!

Wow! They put the "community" into community bathing❣️

Either RePecka or Gentle will be moving to live with a local breeder, the one I have purchased birds from a couple times. She needs a black marans hen for her new project.

Gentle, she's as sweet as her name implies

RePecka, or Pecky if she's behaving. She's mean on a nest, but seems to be fairly calm otherwise.

In exchange, I am getting 3 splash copper marans roosters. I may keep one as a flock rooster, Wild Man has earned himself a ticket for the crockpot express. I do not tolerate trying to grab another bird through the chicken wire. 😡 hormones, man.
I will be getting I believe the dad to Navy and Periwinkle, and two of his purebred sons.

Yes, Periwinkle is already back to squatting for all the roos. My dad calls her a hussy.

And I believe grandpa?

Thus far Little dude and Quartz are behaving with Riddick. They are not allowed to breed a hen in his sight, but he doesn't stop them if they mate somewhere else. Plus, they are all split to the three coops now. Pretty interesting dynamic, hopefully it stays peaceful until I can get chicks out with the rangers and move boys around. Owl and BlackJack are very close, if we keep one we'll have to keep the other as well.

Oh yeah, Diva started laying! She had two softies a couple days ago but she laid a nice egg today. Congrats, Diva.

I will try to get individual photo shoots. It isn't that easy because although Tassels wouldn't prevent me picking them up, she clearly prefers that I not do so.
And then she draws herself up and gives me ‘the look’!

Yep, that’s that look. I know it well!

This batch of chicks, mamas allowed me to be very close....until babies protested. Picking them up for a photo shoot....No. picking them up to add to roost near mama/other chicks....permitted with verbal protests.

I thought I was ready to wean myself off the strong painkillers. I took my last pill around 11 last night. I should have set an alarm for 5 am this morning. I did not, I slept through it and did not wake up until 8. I will say that was a horrible decision, and no I am not ready. I woke up hurting so bad that it made me sick and I can feel every heartbeat in my arm. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, and my shoulder has hurt pretty much non-stop for 2 years. This.....this is different let me tell you.
Hope you’re feeling better by now! I’ve been too busy to be on much. As one who has been through various surgeries, ortho included I’ll note that pain is a sneaky and sometimes tricky thing. It’s situational, and often worse at night, and it’s best to make any changes during the day so you can deal with it then. And even if you’ve been fine all day with a lesser dose you might want to take something for the night. You got this! :hugs

You’re probably starting PT soon, so another tip: even if you’re not needing much pain meds during the daytime consider you might find you’ll want something for the appointment. When I DID need meds during the day I adjusted my regular schedule so that I would be approaching peak medication during the PT appointment.

Then at a certain point I needed ZERO meds for both night and day but ended up taking one pill prior to each PT to help get through the stretching pain and muscle work. I was in much better shape afterwards, and with less persistent soreness. It really helps! :hugs

I haven’t been on BYC much at all this week. I have been very sick. Too sick to see a doctor. I asked
Paul to check on me once a day.
He’s a great wing man! He takes care of my plane (when I can’t come to the hanger.
