I use bricks & paver stones to cover areas I don't want chickens digging up ~ especially around my tree roots.

I put large stone around my palms in their pots. Otherwise I wouldn’t have dirt left in them!

I am so very egg sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful girl. You did your very best for her, and I honestly believe she was not in any pain when she passed thanks to you.

When I got my silkie chicks back in April, I was sooooo hopeful that at least one of them was a buff. Here is a pic of them then, and some just a few weeks later…

But they have all turned out to be white. Although at times I feel they are just a touch more ivory than white.

But an orange silkie hen would be really nice and add some splashy colour to the group.

Aren't all white chickens yellow as chicks?

Yes, they are. But IMO at least one of mine was definitely more buff/orange than yellow when they were little. That is why I was surprised that they all ended up as white.

Yep - that’s strange for sure! I am even more interested now to see what these two end up!

The orangy ones are "Red" Silkies that will probably turn orange after a season of dirt baths !! They ARE pretty

For me orange is any light brownish colour

Like Mrs LC - I would call her yellow/orange.

And Marty is black with gold highlights - how much would we pay at a hairdresser for that?!

And of course white don’t ask how she stays so clean…?

She’s just finishing up moulting and her shackle feathers came in yellow/cream coloured!

Baby chick update. - they are getting adventurous, coming out and looking around eating and drinking. Tomorrow I will put them in the Summer House in a pen there I have used in the past.

They are cute little monkeys!

I’ll get some pics later, right now I need to go pot hunting, I need some planter pots to put my banana plants in. Time to dig them up for winter…

Not sure if they're vaccinated. They're from a feed store and I wasn't there when they were bought.
