We have the enclosed pen attached to our coop. There's a chicken door with access into the free range pen. It's about 100'long x 50'wide.
Here's a couple of fun video's of my girls & roos from 2020.

Here's the coop and enclosed pen.
Our fence is over 80" tall.

The coop in 2020 with a fresh coat of paint and a new nesting box. We used to have bantams, so the nesting box was inside. We had to make room for 20 full size chickens.

We added chicken wire to the nesting box for the hot days of summer.

View of the enclosed pen and gate from the free range pen. The gate is big enough for our tractor. View attachment 4211100View attachment 4211101

A favorite roosting spot is this volunteer grape behind the enclosed pen.

Their favorite dust bathing space between the back fence and the back of the enclosed pen.

Looking towards the far end of the free range pen. A nice sheltered area with rocks, trees and space to dust bathe.

That’s a lovely location, do you get snow in the winter there? Or can your chooks enjoy being outside all the time?

That was very entertaining! :goodpost:

I tried to take it from her, I picked her up and tried to pull it from her beak! She was not giving up her treat!

Then, she found a rather large worm that mama threw her way, she picked it up to pummel to death, but Eli-Too came over and snatched it from her beak!

Well! That wee kiddo drew herself up to as tall as she could (what’s that 3”???) and stared Eli down! Smart Eli backed down - unbelievable!

That chick is just going to be trouble I just know it. Likely a Roo…..

Then there was some drama with the Noirans, one of them found a space under the fence and crawled into the horse paddock side - thank goodness I had the horses inside. I went and rescued her, I will need to put the slabs of rock I have ready to go along the fence in there. To stop the chooks from digging out and vermin from digging in. Though I have electric tape on the outside of the pen - zap!

Have to say, I am all chicked out, I didn’t want to have the stress of them this year, but those three broodies were tougher then me!

On the up side, Georgie and Holly took their Noirans up onto the roosting ledge and took over the alcove and all 6 of them are crammed in there snuggled up sleeping. Good! They have learnt to roost!

And Whiskers has her babies in her pen in the small crate I put in for her. Good! They are all snuggled in there.

Everyone is in bed and time for me also.

Bonne nuit mes ami 😊
