I’m very privileged to have so much gold around me! A golden laced Wyandottey, and two buff Orpington hens. This is also a blessing! They don’t lay golden eggs, but if they did,… Kelly could build that huge barn she always wanted!![]()
You don't order shoes from a car dealer....why would you order pizza from a chicken joint???I did! BYC did not deliver it. Simple pineapple, mushroom, and Canadian bacon.![]()
Finally! Some of the gals are nibbling the oyster shells. Was beginning to think you all were whack-a-doo!! Provide oyster shells, they say. They’ll know, they say.![]()

stare down with Hawthorne, Mortimer refereeing. This one lasted a while, so is Tundra male of female? (There's moments of questioning MOST chicks).
@rural mouse Tundra looks pullet to me! Sometimes a dominant pullet of the group will take a leadership role - including referreeing - especially when younger...as they get into true adulthood, they are less likely to do that. (note, I don't see it a lot...usually pullets are more timid around Roos of their own age...but I have seen it a couple of times.)

She looks a lot like the pullet I lost, except (and I don't know how, given the chickens I have/possible parents) she had a dark/almost black comb - I believe it would be what they call 'mulberry' in colour when she started reddening up. While I miss her, I feel really bad for her sister. She is always solo now, and roosts alone (they always roosted together). Poor dear.
I throw oyster shell as far across the yard as I can. I do the same with BOSS and safflower seeds. I keep purified grit granules in a dish for them to use at their discretion. (Taking them on car rides, really helps them bond with me)Some of mine will use the oyster shell some don’t.
I have even mixed it on their feed and they mostly just waste it, so I just put it to one side and if they want it they will use it.
I have taken Sir Jaffar with me in the SkyHawk. I believe that that little beautiful rooster, really has gone where no rooster has gone before! Darn it all, actually I confess, whenever I think about Jaffar, I lose composure and start to cry. I can’t help it.I have taken Sir Jaffar with me in the SkyHawk. I believe that that little beautiful rooster, really has gone where no rooster has gone before! (Cue the StarTrek music)
