Good morning!
I’ve not been out to check on them today. I woke up about an hour ago (10:30) and have been feeling under the weather.

I’ve not ridden in a while. I honestly stopped riding in November, and haven’t really ridden since. It’s probably been two years since I’ve ACTUALLY ridden. Like, cantered and didn’t feel like the horse was going to end my life.
I will be quite honest, I am so grateful Mom and Dad bought me a horse, but Auggie was not a good fit for me. I am grateful we gave him back to his old owners, who sold him to a lesson program. Technically, both them and the lesson program own him.
Auggie was just never fun to ride. He was a good horse to hug and talk to if I was having a hard day, but certainly not ride.

I’ve asked Dad if I can go back to riding at my old barn, even just once a month, and he has said no every time. What I don’t understand though, is that he has his old salary back. I know he could afford it, especially one lesson a month, because he afforded four lessons and sometimes a show, every month for YEARS. It’s whatever though, I won’t be able to change his mind.

There was a day-long horse camp two weeks ago, and I really wanted to go. It was $95 and you got to ride twice as much as you did at a normal horse camp. So roughly for about two hours, two different times. I even offered to pay for the whole thing if they could just take me to the camp. Nope.
I’ve been saving money so that I can buy books that I really want, and I was willing to give up most of it just so I can ride for two hours and muck out stalls.
It really annoyed me.

I hope your aching gets better so you can get back in the saddle! :hugs

Tax: My little Athens last night. See how his comb is nowhere to be found?…View attachment 4215862
Is Athens a mixed breed or is he pure Polish? A mixed breed could account for him missing a Polish V-Comb?

Oh, I have eggcellent news!
I was just talking to Mom, and she said I can get back on here fully. I am setting some ground rules for myself though.
If I have homework, I will not be on here until it is done.

In fact, right now I have a ton of homework. What I will do on the weekends if I have homework is this: finish one assignment and come on here for just a few minutes and then finish another assignment.

She also said that if Dad ever find out I’m back on here, she will stand up for me, which is nice. I don’t like keeping secrets from him, but it was her idea. 🤷‍♀️

Tax: Me and my friends new chicks at school! View attachment 4215867

Those look like Polish chicks? So cute ❣️

Don’t worry I am sure we will all keep you on track AND make sure you do your assignments. FYI - I am brutal about finishing assignments on time and top quality. So eggspect me to nag you all the time 😉 my nieces had to prove to me they had their schoolwork done before I would drive them anywhere.

What breed of chicks?

Did you see I have 3 silkie chicks? My neighbour gave me some eggs to hatch.

Wow that is an amazing comb! It’s a crown!

You have a beautiful flock btw. The Polish really add pizzazz I think.

Sure like babies with their barnyard mutt mama

I will happily take reminders to finish my work. In a little while I am planning on putting my earbuds in, listening to music, and doing most of my work.

My two chicks are: White Crested Blue Polish and Porcelain d’Uccle.
My friends chicks are: White Crested Black Polish and Millie Fleur d’Uccle.

I did not see that you got silkie chicks!! How eggciting!

I will let Red know that everyone loves his comb!

Thank you! I adore my free ranging flock, and I’m sure I will love them even more once all of their feathers grow back.
I agree. The Polish make everything better. They are just so fun and I love having the mixes in my flock.

Oh! What precious chooks! The hen is gorgeous and the chicks are so adorable!

Athens is a purebred Polish! I’ve always wondered why he is missing a comb. I got him from Meyer hatchery, so I can’t imagine that he is a mixed breed.

Two of the chicks are polish!

Red's comb almost looks like a Sicilian Buttercup comb. Even the Sicilian Buttercups don't always breed true buttercup combs ❣️ He's a beauty.
Thank you! I will tell him what you said. I’m sure he will brag about it to all the other chooks. He already thinks he’s better than all of them since he’s the most colorful and my favorite.

Something eggciting I realized a few minutes ago… my oldest chicken is four years old!
Today is Splotch’s hatchday! And Pastel’s… so hopefully he is having a good day in chook heaven.

Happy hatchday Splotch! I am so thrilled to have officially had chickens for four years. These past four years have been amazing because of you and your flock. You Pastel, Bolt, BBQ, and Basil started my chook obsession. I started with five chickens, and now I have 40. That never would’ve happened if you didn’t hatch Splotch. And while Pastel, Basil, and BBQ have moved on to the next life, you and Bolt carry on as my two oldest ladies, and you two are the best girls out of all my chickens. Happy hatchday pretty Splotch. I’ll give you a bunch of strawberries and blueberries with your dinner tonight. And I am putting a hat on you. You can’t make me not put one on you.

Not all "pure" breeds will hatch w/ perfect breed characteristics ~ that's why poultry show standards have "disqualifications" for breed standards.

I had 3 Dominique chicks that all grew up w/ different-looking Rose Combs. They were definite Rose Combs w/ a rear leader yet one had 3 rows of bumps, one had a zigzag bump formation, & one had a crooked leader at the back & had uneven wattles yet her more silver feathers were a plus.

Show breeders have to hatch upwards of 100 Dominique chicks to get maybe one or two birds to qualify in show standards.

I'm glad I'm not a show breeder cuz those disqualifications would frustrate me too much. Egg color, egg size or quantity, or beauty, is not as important to me as bird temperaments to have a peaceful backyard flock.

BFTP 2017 Dominique chicks ~ best temperament standard size breed we've had. Leghorns were nice flockmates but they were more independent than the outgoing people-friendly Doms who are peaceful flockmates.

Our Silkie hens are all good flockmates except when they go broody... but then any broody bird can go bonkers:lau

Yep after raising show horses for many many years, I was happy just to enjoy my old gals. Best horse ever was one I paid $100 for, and was a mutt.

Same with the chooks. My mutts are great. Now having said that, those Orpingtons are wonderful also.

Hmmmm I wonder what a polish and Orpington would look like?!

Barred Rocks have Dominique ancestry/history which makes both breeds have pretty much the same good temperaments... Happy Splotch Day❣️
