And I've questioned EVERY sussex.....and just the other day posted Q about Tundra, who is 10 weeks. After about 12 weeks, the Q is usually answered definitively (exceptions abound on both sides of that mark (like silkies/silkie mixes) ). I think this will resolve in the next 2 weeks.

Ive questioned a lot of suspects myself!

Lavender bred to anything but lavender will produce black split to lavender. Black chook, but if bred to lavender or split to lav, could produce lavender or more splits (x with another split, 25% will simply be black, 50% black split (so will look like the simple black) and 25% lav)

They would fly big time. Perhaps even take off vertically like Polish can do. I might want some of these if you created some.

They sound like my kind of chicken.

I know right?! Tippy just goes straight up 6’ no problem, and proceeds to fly out of the run. Butterscotch also - both effortlessly.

Oh and Miss Laverne - I found out how she is escaping - she is following Tippy and the otjers over the horse fence! It’s almost 5’ high! She looks big but she is really all feathers. Did Hattie ever fly like that? My other Orps can fly up 4’ to roost on the stall doors, but I don’t think they can fly any higher.

Molting here too. I see a few spots in your pics where it's completely bare in a circle, that might be feathers taken off while breeding.

You keep coming back to concern about your apparent lack of feelings for your chickens. My advice is that there is no "ought" with feelings. They may or may not be directly related to what you focus on at first. Feelings tend to be a conglomeration of multiple ingredients, like a stew. In the Northeast that's exactly the word: "stewing" about something. Sometimes it means they're plainly upset. It also often means someone is working on sorting things out. Feelings can be guideposts leading you to insights about yourself and your life. It takes time to understand & get the flavors isolated and the whole understood. So go easy on yourself in this regard.

@Pastel the Rooster Feelings are just that - they can not be manufactured - they are what they are, and vary depending on a whole host of other things happening in our life at the moment - and also as we change. Accept what you are feeling, don't denigrate it. You can work on insights as to why, but don't even think about making yourself feel bad about what you are feeling (or not feeling). That, my friend, leads to a whole host of trouble later on!

Sigh. Yes I know.
I considered many probabilities in this adventure. But I focused on the probability that Tassels would accept or murder them when I introduced them at 6 days, and the probability that they would die from Marek’s before adulthood because I did not leave it long enough for the vaccine to take.
I did not focus on the probability that the hatchery sexing would be wrong.
Sigh.

I forget what breed she is...is she part MArans? If so, I'm not totally surprised - boy Marans start popping their combs by 4 weeks...so she would be late if a full Marans and a boy......

But, considering that in my old age and feeble brain, I've fogotten what breed s/he is......I will let @rural mouse chime in if she hasn't already, as I know she remembers your breeds......

Either way, Chippy is a gorgeous chicken - such a beauty.


(Besides, RC, you need a rooster anyways - so if she happens to be a HE, all the better - then @Ponypoor won't get jailed trying to cross the border with feathered contraband!)
