Whoa Nelly! Glad you found it. Yes expensive:

You do not need a turkey - don’t you have wild ones there? We have lots of wild turkeys here - magnificent beasts!

What you do need are Polish! They are the perfect accompaniment to a silkie 😊♥️
I know I do not need a turkey, but you also know what I'm doing. In the midst of my project I'm stumbling across all sorts of things including turkeys. Lots and lots of Turkeys and so I find myself wanting a guard turkey. It does not help that I see a large group of turkeys every morning at the horse ring. I've watched about 20 little ones grow up this summer.

Well I did love my little Polkie George and I have to agree. Gee, it sounds like you almost know why I'm going down the facebook rabbit hole.

I would love to have turkeys - I think they are awesome ♥️

But not until I win that lottery 😉

My neighbour whom I got the eggs from has turkeys - her Tom is outstanding! What a creature - and very quiet and docile. Yep we both need turkeys 😊😊😊

George was a splendid boy I miss him also 😞 I am almost tempted to hatch some Betty x MrP eggs next year hope for a Georgette ♥️

No wattles Wednesday!
I finally got some pictures of Bucky. Isn’t she pretty?! No wattles. Definitely a girl right?

Pullet! But not by no wattles. Wattles aren’t the thing so much with Buckeyes, even a fully grown roo has small ones. The wattles and comb is always bigger than females though.

A very grand Sir Roo

Going by my experience with Shehnai, I'm going by leg length & thickness, & mainly comb size for the given age. Even as a chick Shehnai had bigger and longer legs proportionately. He was always bodily bigger than the other chicks, which could be just the genetics he got, but, mainly, he had more comb than the others, and always seemed generally more developed than he should be for his supposed age. After a few weeks his sturdier legs and comb vastly outpaced his sisters. I kept feeling he was two-three weeks older than the others, or else he was a roo, which I was afraid he probably was (now I'm excited about it, and hoping it will work out). The obvious clue against the "older" thought was his molting & feathering: it was always right in line with everyone else, how could he be so much older?

I'll locate pictures if I have them.

What a miserable day it was, and became even more so when I got home. It started thundering and then the rain came - torrents of it. I may as well have been in the Caribbean - we have this soupy humid tropical airmass settled here and along with the lovely warm weather it’s very humid. And this is the third day of heavy torrential rains.

Needless to say the chooks were soaked from being caught out in the rain, and sure didn’t spend much time outside. Everyone was fighting and scrapping because they all wanted to go outside but it was pouring rain.

Misty has been sitting in the nestbox past few days - not sure if she thinks she is broody or what. She sure isn’t talking broody talk, or pancake flattening out.

Anyways Raven got it into her head that Misty needed to come out of the nestbox so she HAULED Misty out of the box. WELL! That started a huge brawl between the two of them, I didn’t want to stop it, as they need to work it out themselves, but Raven just wouldn’t back down even though Misty was winning.

Misty repeatedly ninja kicked her, and grabbed her by the comb and wattles, I finally had to break it up and I herded Raven away. Her comb is torn, and her eyelid is damaged. She is too old for that crap - what was she thinking?!

Anyways I put some antibiotic eye ointment on her eye and cheek that was torn, I’ll put some polysporin on her comb in a bit, and I’ll give her some tylenol when I go out in a bit. Poor old girl, she is her own worse enemy.

Then a few of the others got into a fight, the Roos were freaking out. Those girls are vicious, I don’t want poor Clyde hurt. Mr LC is fast enough and can fly away. Clyde though can only run, which he did at one point. I scooped him up and rescued him. Sheesh those hens are cranky!

The poor Noirans chicks were also on the receiving end of some pecks, Marty got into it with Cash…. So I had to rescue Marty. Who was absolutely soaked, dried her off and gave her dose of sulphatrim. She’s doing better but she needs more weight.

Ok so the Polish chicklets are doing good. I started the second chick on sulphatrim also last night- I was worried she seem a bit down. Tonight I noted their crops were full thank goodness. The first chick is no longer wheezing or coughing and seems to be breathing fine. She hasn’t had any Tylenol since Tuesday morning. Both are eating and drinking. Thank goodness! But I still feel incredibly guilty about the other two chicks and I wish I had got buddy’s number so I could call and get the other two. I am sure he won’t help them if they are sick 😢😢😢😢

I am handling them both twice a day, I do this last thing after I deal with the main gang. They are dear sweet little things.

Ok this is a super long post - sorry all needed to vent.

Here are a couple sweet photos of Whiskers and her wee chickie poos.
