Is there a story behind that name?

Why yes! @RoyalChick had a lovely hen who was renowned for her flying abilities, she was often found high up in the rafters of her chicken palace. And once even found an egg up there!

Unfortunately the beautiful Eli passed away. During this time I had a bunch of chicks my niece hatched at the school she teaches at, I gave her a bunch of eggs and 11 chicks hatched.

Well one little devil was flying demon and I started calling ‘what are you Eli too?’ And then shortened to Eli-too, I asked RC if I could use that name and thus ever since she has been Eli-too.

I knew she wasn’t feeling well this past summer because she hadn’t been flying over the fences with her sisters Tippy and Butterecotch.

It my hope she will be fine, but I fear that she has some serious health issues. She’s not old either - only 2 1/2yrs old. Not old esp for a mutt.

But she is toodling around here, and I have been dosing her with Tylenol and aspirin, which has made her more comfortable and more active. We take it one day at a time.

Those faces :lau:gig:lau:gigLooks like you walked in on something you definitely weren't meant to see.

I hope she feels better soon and has a good bit of time left yet.

One of the muscovy drakes where I used to stay was called Edgar Allan Poo. None of the other ducks liked him much and he spent a lot of time moping around up by the house, but it was impossible to tell him and another drake apart when they were together. That's how we ended up with Edgar Allan Poo and Edgar Allan Too.

The Road to Wellness

We had Wellness Checks for everyone last night. All 8 were weighed and checked over. Here are some observations.

Hattie is much smaller than she once was. She has developed this swing in weight that seems to be a recurring cycle. She is her smallest at this time of year, weighing only 2kg (4.4 lbs). this is a dramatic change from her peak weight of 3.25 kg (7.16 lbs) back in 2022. It has been a gradual decline but she now runs about 2 kg at this time of year and is up to about 2.5 kg (5.6 lbs) at the end of spring. I would be very concerned if this wasn't a typical pattern for her.

Aurora is a brute. My gosh, she is definitely strong and healthy. She puts a vigorous fight. At 2.8 kg (6.17lbs) she is also down a little from her spring high of 3 kg (6.6 lbs).

I had to have a photo taken. I don't get to hold her that often.

She seemed to have started her molt last night when i brought her in. By morning this is what the roost looked like underneath her!

Lady Featherington is molting badly. She holding her weight though coming in at 2.9 kg (6.4 lbs).

Sydney was also a real fighter. And that neck! She was snaking it out trying to peck me. She came in at her usual 2.5 kg (5.5 lbs).

Aster is Aster. Once collected, she is very cooperative. 1.8 kg (4 lbs).

The Polish all got checked over once again. The only big news is that Tilly put on weight for the first time. Her weight had been flat since she arrived. She is up 0.1 kg.

I was also a little worried that Joy might be developing bumblefoot based on a glance I got of her feet. Fortunately, I was clearly seeing things. She has beautifully clear feet.

We allowed Niamh run off the house while Tilly and Joy were checked out. She chased Enzo off of his chair and joined Joy up on the exam (dining room) table. I think she was looking for a new place to roost! 😆

An interesting note: Niamh has not laid an egg since confined to the run. I am starting to wonder if she ever did. Was I confusing her eggs with Aster's?

I look like Locutus of Borg in that last photo, or maybe a Cylon warrior!

Here's Hawk. I took this photo today.

Also, a reminder that this weekend I will be going to an apple festival, so expect pictures of the event. Also, this weekend I will be celebrating Raven laying her first pullet eggs. This will be an interesting weekend.

Mine mix it up on which roost where. I gave up on groups and simply count them all....then go hunting when I keep coming up short....only to have that one in the coop the next morning....How do they manage to hide INSIDE the coop with a count repeated 4 times?
Maybe cuz an owner needs glasses 🕶️ ?
Just kidding... sometimes I miss seeing a bird right under my nose when I lift the nestbox lid to count dogpile Silkies! At night they all look the same color :idunno

This dozen group looks like a more manageable number 💕 than having over 40+?
