Thank you for the advice! The coop looks really nice. Using leaves is a good idea especially since our yard has 3 huge trees that drop a ton of leaves each year.
Let's hope for a mild winter. 😂
By the way I love the silver laced wyandottes. I own a gold laced one.
I just LOVE Wyandottes! They're the only real breed I have (the others are hybrids), so I feel like I can't say they're my favorite breed... I haven't experienced any other breeds... But they're so spunky! Even the little one at the bottom of the ladder pecks the top hen sometimes 😂

My wyandotte is currently the smallest bird i have (she's still not fully grown) and yet she'll take on birds that are bigger than her!

1. Liquid water. Multiple trips a day out lugging water, heated water bowl, crock pot set to warm...

2. Plan on them NOT wanting to leave the coop sometimes and other times wanting OUT

3. Snow deep enough to fall into their footprints while their feet are still in the print (so 3+ inches) means they pretty much won't go through it. Shoveling/tramping paths will be necessary. One it develops the hard crust on top, they'll go running across it.

4. -10F and colder is coldvenough to choose to stay in (also humidity dependent).

5. Outside places sheltered from the wind but in the sun will be prime hang outs
Thank you for the advice!

Opened the coop last night to find it freshly covered in feathers, I thought they were at the tail end of moulting, but apparently not! Also found an egg from Lumi which was a nice surprise, it had been a week since anyone laid.
Getting a new roof this weekend, good news for the house, but probably not us. We know our landlord wants to sell, and I am sure this is prep. Finding housing around here is so hard, animals make it 10 times harder. Trying to block out the stress of even thinking about it.

Use of Baytril for poultry anywhere in the USA was banned ten years ago.

Shhhhhh not so loud! We really don’t have poultry, we have oversee’ers. They keep us Hoomans in-line; so we can use that for them seeing as how they aren’t poultry…..

Sweet Coco! 🥰 Our furred friends always seem to know when we 'aren't quite right' and want to help or protect us! I'm glad you have a 'little one' that can be near and not be a worry regarding damaging/injuring the sutured wound!
Here is to a speedy recovery! Hope the other 'look-see' went well, too.
Hi BG, I'm currently at hospital waiting for my scan. Not too sore from chest but trying to be careful. I'm very anxious about this scan. My neurologist is certain I don't have Parkinson so hopefully this will provide confirmation. Thanks everyone for the good wishes, it is truly a blessing ❤️
