Wee Leah passed away today, I just couldn’t get calories into her, I might do a check of the crop to see if there are any visible signs of blockage. But I do feel there was more going on with her.

Petra is on her own now and a bit lost. Hopefully she will make some friends with the silkie chicks.

Oh no! What was wrong? Was she unable to pass her food? I found out 2 weeks ago when one of mine passed (thinking it was the crop because she couldn't pass anything) I did the necropsy and found a stuck egg high up. I couldn't feel this when she was alive. I was trying to get her to pass her food for a week and nothing ever passed.

She had crop issues but I feel it was more than this. But I will check her crop when I get home tomorrow, I didn’t have a chance today and it was pelting down rain, so I didn’t want to be outside doing this. And I did not want to do it inside the barn.

Petra seems fine, a bit lonely but she’s energetic enough. I am keeping her in the crate in the feedroom where it’s warm. I’ll make a decision on the weekend on where to rehouse her.

Oh not re-home - rehouse! As in move her in with either Mr P’s gang of evil silkie overlords, or the main gang with that bunch of moulting grumpy hens.

Oh don’t worry I have more than enough chooks to last me for a good few years

I worry having Petra all alone and out with the main gang that she might get clobbered or not eat properly.
