So I have the habit set when the weather really gets cold...and don't forget to unlatch the little door....but I have to open the big anyway so I can go in with food and water....hmmm.....going to ponder this a bit.
Why not a latch on the outside?

I’m here watching tv with two of my feathered ladies.
I’m wondering how 5 chooks became 25 chooks? :idunno :old
It is called 'multiplication'. Maybe you remember it from grade school?

It doesn't help you are on a very enabling friendly thread, either!😆😆😆😆😆

I am crying - oh the unjustness of it. Sad, mad, furious at those who don’t keep such good care for their chooks like you do and send sick birds out to develop sickness. Gives us heartbreak
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

I am sad for Joy, but I am so very sad for you and Rose- huge hugs to both of you 🥰
Thank you.

Metal is cold, snow can melt and freeze. It's possible the latch will still freeze, but it's slightly warmer inside. Also means I can't be lazy and just close up. I at least have a peek inside.
