She is gone 😭
I haven't many pets over the years, but this is my first chicken loss. I never imagined it would be one of my youngest. No idea what was wrong. Her crop was definitely empty, she pooped liquid and urates a bit before she died. She wasn't back laying yet. Yesterday she was a bit standoffish/ less eager than usual, but definitely nothing alarming. Everyone else seems normal. Fingers crossed for everyone else.

I do wish we could speak chicken sometimes - it is so hard trying to figure out what might be wrong - and they are really good at hiding it until it is really, really bad.🫂

Well that went better than expected...

So much easier to get chickens to drink vitamin water (poultry booster) when most of their favorite spots are frozen. 😁

I too have been giving vitamins in their water since Flopsy was sick, and it's good it has Vit D in it, that is in short supply around here these days.

Where do you get your poultry booster from?
Little tent over the warming panels which are on the East and North side, while above them I added more HVAC filter (bright blue). There's already HVAC material across the Eastern gable above them (dusty blue).

Found a small plastic tarp and some cardboard to block the large (too large for winter) & windy vent on the opposite West gable.

Two eggs today from the young Buckeyes! On the left looks like the egg from yesterday, possibly Bea's, light brown and longish. On the right is the new layer's First Egg! :wee:wee:wee

Darker, rounder. Possibly it's Peaches' egg. Unfortunately that one froze and has a crack on one side.

Congratulations! Those are beautiful looking eggs, pretty colour - peachy pink it looks to me.

From the winter storm. We had 2 days straight of rain and this morning slush turning into snow for the whole morning

What did your chooks think of the snow?

I’ve been complaining that the new 10 (whatever they are) haven’t been laying eggs. I was wrong! Found these under some boxes under the porch:

Always fun finding eggs in crazy spots! Nice eggs they are too.

Alright! If we do end up taking him some place, I’ll see if they’ll neuter him and if not where I can go to get it for a low price or free. I was told that there is a humane society in the county next to mine that neuters them for a low price, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to find a place for free.
All I know is that there’s no female cats here for him to get pregnant.

I’ve never been much of a cat person (I prefer dogs, and not the little ones, I love big dogs) but I still like cats. I don’t think I’ve ever met a cat as sweet as this little guy. He tried following me into the house and then started screaming when I ran inside and shut the door.
I might see if I can cook him an egg to hold him over for the night until I can get some proper cat food tomorrow. View attachment 4288728

So you're going to keep the wee moggy then in that case? He's a handsome wee moggy, a real Sylvester kitty. Please make sure he gets his rabies vax if you keep him, it is so important to protect you and your family

❤️

Just wants to hang out with me. Little roo!View attachment 4288735

Oh he is very handsome! And look at those legs, I know I mentioned it before, do these kiddos have Malay in them? More pretty than a Malay though.

I’m a day late, but I have a Caturday story to share (and photos).

Two weeks ago, Mom was driving and saw a black and white cat run across the road (reminder that we live 2 1/2 miles away from a paved road and have NO neighbors for more miles than that). No one saw the cat again until yesterday, but it was a brief glimpse (Mom saw him again) and then he ran away.
Well, today she was out with the goats and called me. She told me that the cat was out there. Obviously I went out to see. He didn’t run away. He wasn’t sure of me, but he sat down and meowed at me repeatedly.
I squatted and was talking to him, when he got up and started walking towards me. I stood up again, since I wasn’t sure if he was sick or not, and he stopped walking. But I did squat back down and he came up to me and nudged my hand.
He was so sweet. He was just letting me pet him (and meowing). He looks healthy other than being very skinny.
He followed Mom and I to the house, and Mom got him some tuna and water. Poor baby devoured the tuna. We grabbed an old cabinet, put some hay in it, and put the food and water bowls in it, so maybe he’ll go in there.
Dad says that we are just going to leave him and let him be a wild cat, but I think we should take him to an animal shelter. There’s a sanctuary about an hour away that might take him (trying to convince mom to reach out to them). He isn’t neutered, which is why mom isn’t sure about anything. She doesn’t want to pay to get him neutered in order to rehome him.

Anyways, this is him. I think he might’ve attacked the rooster, instead of the hawk, but I have no proof. View attachment 4288638View attachment 4288639

And then chicken tax if it’s needed.

I highly doubt the cat attacked a rooster. That runs contrary to all my experience with cats and chickens. Not saying it isn't possible but in my experience it's very unlikely.

He is not acting like a feral cat. Someone may have dumped him.
