7 chickens in 3.5 years. That's 2 per year. Gosh what a terrible rate. If I had not saved Niamh........

I have had years like that with the horses 😢

When one deals with animals it’s going to happen, the best we can do is the best we can. Most times there would be nothing one could have done to prevent things.

Evening Update

Daisy:
Seems a bit better this afternoon, I brought out some cooked veggies, she and Flopsy had a bit to eat, then I let them out with the main gang for some leg stretching.

At bed time Daisy decided that she was going to fly up onto the stall door she normally sits on before I make them go to bed. Of course this cause me to freak out, but as she was already up there I left her and continued to finish with the horses. When I was ready I carried her into the feedroom, gave her 1/2 an aspirin and her Sulphatrim, and put her to bed.

Flopsy:
Things didn't go as planned with her tonight, while trying to dose her with the Canestin her crop overflowed causing her to start gasping and rattling - this cause me again to get freaked out. I decided I would just leave her alone and see if her crop goes down by morning enough to give her the Canestin. I am very concerned with her, more so than with Daisy now. Though both are causing me stress.

Goldie:
She seems to be doing ok, I did give her 1/2 an aspirin tonight as she seemed to be not moving much. Give her some pain relief for any aches and pains she has.

Marty, Curly, Mrs LC and Clyde:
These kiddos are doing ok, I gave Clyde is prednisone. I will need to drain Marty's abdomen this weekend, it's getting full again.

So that's if for today, I am pooped just caring for the ones who are sick/injured. I feel like I am back to my Nurse days - getting my meds all lined up and doling them out to everyone! But this morning I missed giving the horses their arthritis meds - I need to get a note book and write down whole all gets what - it's getting complicated with so many needing different things. sheesh!

Sorry no new Two fors, here's a BFTP:

Of all your bird ailments Marty surprises me most. I never had a Silkie w/ water belly. Pray you & tour tribe get thru ok thru winter 🙏

I'd be happy not falling over with my 2 feet hahaha! (side effect of the pregabilin I was told was falling - gee nice to let me know! explains my falling off the manure pile, fence, generally just walking...) I was lucky I didn't fall out of the loft when poor Daisy got smooshed!

I tried to mimic Henny Penny standing one legged - she's a pro!
Time to plan ahead for any future health risks that may beFALL you. For balance I sometimes used a quad cane on each hand at the same time if on uneven ground, trained myself not to shuffle walk, & raise my feet as I walked to not catch a shoe on a crack or hole in the ground. I never realized before my fall how little attn I paid to watching floor/ground terrain while walking. Chickens get underfoot too. The hens are not afraid of my canes but forewarns them to stay out of the way when I'm on the move TG!

I have a rule here: no sitting on my chair! Of course they ignore me and when I turn my back there they are pooping on my chair!

Worst ones where Sophia’s wee ones, she expected me to do babysitting duties, and the wee little turnips learnt to sneak into my office/feedroom and would hop up on my lap for a snooze making it very hard to work at my laptop.

Then they would ignore my rule about sitting on my chair….

I told them they would end up headless if they pooped on my chair!

They survived my threats and are now coming 2 yrs old ♥️
I had to use towels for Tova's chair & she would rest her head hanging over the edge:

Very nice picture. However, we try to save the'non-chicken" pictures for 'Pony Sunday" (except for cats - which day is "Caturday') to keep this thread on it's primary mission of showcasing our chooks.

Those lambs are adorable though :)
