I also use two heat sources in case on light burns out. It has happened to me twice and I lost to many chicks. I use one red heat bulb and one ceramic bulb of lower wattage but enough the can get warm if need be. I can hang a 100 watt ceramic a bit lower too.

Yeah I use one in the coop too when it gets below freezing. I think a 100w ceramic is safer as it isn't likely to start a fire if a feather flies against. it.
I don't like having chicks or adults under a light all night, it is supposed to get DARK at night. $4 is a darn good price! I think I paid about $18 for the one I have (though reptile stuff is always more expensive).
