Morning granny & everyone, I have spent the morning being lazy & drinking coffee. Have been working with all ages of my birds the past 2 days. I have 5 different age groups. I have 4 groups that have there own coops & runs. They all have a small connecting chicken door that I can open. This is the second day that everyone is co-mingling. Other than a scuffle here & there they are doing great. Its so cute to see 4 wk olds out scratching with the adults. Then occasionally a couple 8 wk olds come by and give chase until one of the 16 wk old decide to chase them lol. I had the wk old chicks out with momma & the 4 wk olds yesterday. It was so cute, a couple of the 4 week old chicks climbed in the little dog kennel with them and started scratching and teaching them to do it. Eventually a few got brave and ventured out of the kennel following the 4 wk old chicks like they were their momma. Chicken watching is so addictive, I'll never get my work done at this rate.
Hope you all have a great day. Granny sure hope your AC person gets out there asap. I hate being hot and sweating all over the place. Its cooler today & the humidity is not over the moon so I had better take advantage of that and get my garden hoed.

the babys sound so cute. i have 3 roosters left that are separate. all the rest are in 2 coops. I sat outside for an hr. or so yesterday. seemed to be cooler out there so i enjoyed myself for a few. Toms feet are swelling bad from the heat and i am dehydrated. He is very grumpy. he wants all these kids gone. hope they find a place soon . He is getting rude .

its so hard to be pleasant when your not feeling well, the heat is out of control and your home has been taken over by 6 very active, loud monkeys. I wouldn't be pleasant either and I love kids. My prayers are with you that they find a house soon.

Wishing. Granny makes me laugh too. She's the reason I read this. For over a month. Before. Joining. She always made my day. Put me in a great mood. Love that. :)

The heat really bothers me too. I usually get a bad headache. If I'm too hot. Hope soon you get that ac. Fixed. And Tom feels. Better. I love my grandkids to visit. But sure. Glad. When it's time for them to go home

By now I would have told DD & SIL to get a tent and find a place in the back yard. I have zero tolerance for people that use me to protect themselves from the big bad world and mistakes that they made, and then have the balls to treat me like crap in my own home.

I hope nobody gets mad at me, I have cabin fever from being sick for 3+ weeks........

Oy - feel like I haven't been able to really - crazy days .....feel like a chicken running around with my head cut off most of the time (and, sidenote, just realized that for being a "chicken" site, that is one smiley we don't have - maybe would be too graphic???? I'm sure it could be done tastefully, lol)
The little pullets are fully integrated with the big girls. There was some pecking order and "welcome to chicken society" lessons, but no one was ever even all that aggressive about things - the first several days the little girls just stayed wherever the big girls were not so one group was in the run with the other in the coop and vice versa - now, though, they mingle quite a bit and just stay out of range of the very top birds. It's been interesting to see which birds in the main group have been most accepting of them - kind of surprising on a couple of counts. SO much easier now that everyone is in one place and I am not having to feed, water and manage two separate groups.
Still haven't gotten around to breaking my broody - suppose I should do that this weekend especially since she chose the favorite nest box to set up shop in (of course).

Non-working A/C is not good - I am really not a fan of being too warm. When we first moved out here I had made comment to our neighbor about the heat/humidity of NC where we had come from and how I was disappointed to find it was just as hot/humid here. He told me, "Oh, this is really unusual this year - it's not normally like this" -- HE LIED!!! It has been EXACTLY like that every year we have lived here. We have some repairs to do on our system too, but $$$$ is such that it isn't an option right now -- have found some DIY things that may help it limp along another summer....I count myself lucky on the days it keeps the house under 80, sometimes I try to fool myelf by stepping outside for a few minutes and then when I come back in the difference makes me forget that it isn't really all that "cool" in the house, just feels like it because it's better than outside.

I'd suggest not cooking to avoid heating the house any further, but I suppose that isn't an issue for you, Granny........

I know that in the summer I do a lot more grilling, microwaving, salads/sandwiches and using my smaller electric skillets, etc than using the oven or stovetop.

Absolutely - the situation itself is stressful enough - factor in not feeling good AND being miserably hot and it's a recipe for disaster.

Good news for Ziva! Being the guinea pig paid off this time. I'm always hesitant to use medications, but they sure are miserable with those allergies. I can tell when the Benadryl works because Belle snores extra loud all night!

Realized when you said how Z gets in the tub that Belle isn't really too big for the tub, she's too big for our tiny bathroom! The kind where you have to squeeze out of the way to shut the door. That along with her arthritis and my bad back makes the tub impractical. There's a small Petco store nearby (they call it Unleashed) that has 3 raised grooming tubs you can pay a small fee to use. Going to try that soon and see if she will walk up the little ramp. That would be a real back saver!
