We're not close to anyone. We're Louisiana-to-Iowa from DH's family, and mine are all 3 hours+ away. We take turns meeting up for holidays. This year is LA thanksgiving, IA Christmas.

Good afternoon everyone, didn't get up early today after being kept up so late by granny & twist :lau I just absolutely love your jokes. I never remember the whole joke to retell to others. That CRS is always working against me ha ha. Have been lazy this morning. Got up early to let the birds out then crawled on the couch and fell back asleep. Woke up a couple hours later & have been lazy since then. Called the hatchery to see how my order was coming since I hadn't heard anything. My order was being held up by the white leghorns. They suggested California Greys, so I went with 5 of those instead. Has anyone ever had those before & if so how have they layed for you? They said they would get back to me with a ship date. Better get the brooder coop cleaned this afternoon & set up for baby chicks again. The sooner the better for arrival time, I don't want to provide additional heat in the colder months. By Dec they will be good to go.

Think 2 of my pullets and a cockeriel are california greys. Crossed lh roo X br hen

reading. BBL.

Oy. .....sometimes I think DD will never win with DH. So, she took DS up to her place Monday night and was to bring him back tomorrow after work. Well, today she gets word of a great inspection tomorrow and a lot of her gear is at our house (came home from training with her after the accident and she hadn't taken it up to be place yet since she's restricted duty and can't do any of the things they do that uses said gear ). Long story short, simple answer is bring ds home a day early (tonight) and get her great, right? DH sends me this pissy text about how "your daughter is changing plans once again".....I just don't see the big deal, sigh. I mean, a little spaciness and scatter brain is to be expected, especially now.

That was a great read! Last night was comedy central!

. It's tough when families are so spread out. Sounds like Prostar does the Ca Thanksgiving in the desert. Glamus?
Time to get busy again, union break over. I know I didn't mention everybody but I enjoyed every post and every story. Enjoy your day.

It's been too hot for soup here. Maybe we will get a rocking El Niño and I'll have more soup weather later...we do need the precipitation that's for sure!

Getting ready for work get a call from mil followed by a text or call me. Sigh. Why can't she just say what she wants it makes me feel like being called in to the principals office....you know it's never going to end good!!!
News keeps saying that most of the El Nino rain is going to be in southern CA. Not fair!!! No snow in the Sierra up here is going to mean a lot of empty reservoirs. Glad we have a well. Hope we get some rain too!

MIL.... I feel your pain!

Hi all!
first, I am totally pro coddle, tho I must admit I do have them out onto real ground before most but they're in my collapsible puppy playpen

I am a PROUD lefty BTW.

That soup is sounding good! DH just popped the last of the chili from supper into the microwave and I think I need to check the freezer for something yummy. Earned a good lunch after spending the last hour + pruning the the small oaks and the apple trees in the lower "yard" area with a pruning saw. I have to pick up a new pair of loppers before I tackle limbing up all white pines near the house and out in the field. They all should of been done last fall but I didn't get em done before my accident so now it's twice the work. Oh well, not going to complain for sure. This granny had her doubts I would ever be able to get out there again at all without "wheels" so I am surely not going to curse the blessing!
Lefty!!!

Agree about coddling. I let the Seramas raise their chicks, and they are wild things. Will brooder raise any chicks (or duckinglings!) in future to have them a little tamer, especially since I have relatively few. My chicks are outside in a ground cage the first week if it's warm enough.

Glad you are walking and able to get things done. Usually I can justify slacking off on what needs doing, but now that I'm really limited with my bum shoulder, it's bugging me that there's so much to do.

It was 50 this morning, but high of 90 today. That's the worst. I had my hopes up for fall!
Same here, but not so cold overnight. This is supposed to be the best month weather-wise. Just too farging hot for Oct. Lots of animals getting hit on the road looking for water. Even the bigger creeks are dry now. My dad keeps water out up at his place. He's had the same family of deer up there for years, and wants to give them a chance. They can repopulate the valley I guess. The matriarch is a beautiful big girl.

You'll have to enlarge it, but there are 3 of the pet deer.

Here's the old barn. I spent a lot of time in that barn. All redwood and over 100 yrs old.

Beautiful pictures! Is this at your place or your Dad's? I have a thing for old barns. I'd bet that redwood is worth a fortune! How nice to have deer right out in your yard.

That's on the homestaed farm where I grew up. 30+ acres. My dad still lives there. Mom passed some years back. Only a few miles away from where I live now. Unfortunately, dad doesn't want any roosters around him, or I would have about 1000 chickens up there!

Oh, the redwood is old growth, all fine straight grain. No more dogs around since mom is gone, so the deer moved right in.
