EDIT: The little baby sadly passed away.

My neighbor's husband went and cracked the egg, neither of us know how or why. I removed some of the dry membrane (looking at its condition a wet cloth might not be good). I can't tell if he hit a vessel, but it does still move and we can see a pulse. It's back in the incubator resting as is. Anybody know what to do from here? I'm thinking it should hatch on its own since the thinner membrane doesn't look pierced.

You can try but more than likely you’ll lose it. Never understood why people can’t leave them alone and let them do their thing. Chickens been hatching eggs without our help for longer than we’ve been around.
I dunno what her husband was thinking, neither of us do. We're hoping it'll survive; she lost one already.

I wouldn’t have, but removing the membrane surely wouldn’t have been the sole cause of death :)
I wouldn't think so; it just seemed really fragile. Her husband said it looked underdeveloped, so I wonder if it just wasn't ready, even though it was shaking beforehand.
